Aug 4th 2010 3:01PM I am at the same point that many of you describe. Wanting to quit, sickened by the profane tirades of basement dwelling lowlifes for whom WoW is the singular source of "accomplishment" in life, and getting kicked out of a raid because one member has a more desirable gearscore. If it weren't for these types, there would be no tank shortage. The tank that taught me the art and science of it quit due to the rising intensity of player obsession. They get so uptight with instant gratification that one near wipe in a heroic is all it takes for them to quit the group. That is, of course, after their brand of criticism airs.
They should make an addon called JerkScore. The higher the number, the bigger jerk you are. The rating would be up to people who have been sworn at like we've mentioned so many times, and proof wrought from an audit of past party/raid chat logs. A JerkScore of more than 10,000 gets you banned from the game. One vote automatically increases the jerk's score by 300googolplex (that's 300 followed by 10,100 zeroes). There will be a Redemption Program, where each vote down will decrease the JerkScore by a generous tenth of a point. Once you reach a total of 10,000 points, you will gain One Sorry Buck. Accrue 1000 Sorry Bucks and you will gain one Redemption point. At this juncture, the jerks will have likely given up and signed on with EverQuest again, the internment camp of MMO's.
Just a thought.
Anyway, back to tank anxiety. I don't get anxiety so much as anticipated anger. I don't worry about mistakes tanking, since it is something like riding a bike. I have been on the lookout for a raid guild who remembers that this is a game. And while I understand that raiding requires one to take the game a little more seriously and with more focus, and I even understand the reason for strict start times, there is positively no excuse for verbal abuse. Nor will there ever be. It has to stop, and people snapped back into reality again, remembering that everyone here isn't a soulless NPC.
Jul 19th 2010 7:23PM I say start a petition to get GearScore banned from WoW on grounds it is hindering progression for new raiders. Not against the creators of it, who had nothing but good intentions for it, but too many lazy players ruined it. May sound harsh, but it's wrecking every social aspect of the game.
Jul 18th 2010 11:34PM Wonderful article that should be posted on every WoW site out there. I've constantly struggled to get into raids ever since Gear Score came out. I have a great history with my guild, and used to experience a complete raid restructuring just so I could tank (not to sound arrogant, they had designated me main tank after a long period of proving myself). Now, however, people will rely only on gear to PUG a raid. My ability as a tank is no longer of any consequence, never mind that I've survived those seemingly impossible moments when it looks like a wipe, only to pull of a miracle save at the end. Doesn't anyone care about this anymore?
Apr 22nd 2009 4:28AM My friend, don't sell yourself short. You are FIRST. We hear your roar, even if it is anonymous.
Apr 22nd 2009 1:23AM That battle looks like a seizure waiting to happen.
Apr 10th 2009 2:23PM This would be awesome. A new hero class would rock, and if we're getting a new race as Michael predicts above, then it's going to be two races as with the Draenei and Blood Elves in TBC (not sure a neutral race such as the goblins would go over well). Will they give us both for another expansion?
As for the 3.2 patch, will it be something similar to what they did with the Isle of Quel'Danas, or will Malykriss, the under-construction ziggurat near IC, be the new raid?
