Aug 2nd 2010 4:13AM I'm a brand new player to Eve, and I'm really worried. I recently left WoW out of frustration with the direction their game was going and started trying out several free titles till I eventually decided Allods was gonna be my new game. that quickly went downhill when I got to a high enough level I pretty much had to start paying... and far more than I ever did with wow.
So I finally try out Eve after all these years. I'd been intimidated by its complexity (yet ironically left wow due to its simplicity) but now that I'm playing that's one of the things I love about it. what I REALLY don't understand is why they would begin adding features that seem to resemble much less intellectually stimulating games like farmville and the sims into their game. I'm too new to even be able to do planetary interaction, but I've seen the videos, and it's not as pretty as farmville, but there's plenty of clicking going on. incarna I can't even really compare to the sims... it seems more like 2nd life or free realms... just walking around playing cheesy mini games or something.
then there's dust 514. now I do happen to play xbox live now and then, but I would imagine most eve players probably don't, or at least don't "dual box" eve and their console at the same time. yet when this game comes out the matches that go on in it are supposed to decide the fate of the poor suckers doing all the clicking on those planets?
now back to the game itself... the only real bug I've experienced so far is the "socket is closed" error that logs me out and sometimes won't let me on for hours at a time... you can imagine how frustrating that is, yet after reading the forums it seems CCP swears they fixed the problem already, which means it won't likely be fixed even 18 months from now!
it might not be their standard MO to dedicate a team to fixing bugs, but maybe that's been their problem all along. it seems these problems are finally catching up, and if they don't do anything to resolve these issues in LESS than 18 months, they're gonna lose many old and new players alike.
Jun 19th 2010 12:25PM they make me extremely angry. it's an insult to my intelligence. I'm not even impressed for it's own self-contained artistic value. It has none, as it says nothing. They are always nothing more than over the top action scenes relentlessly hitting you with cut after cut while epic music plays in the background. If you thought transformers was a great movie, then I guess you'll be into that kind of crap, but ALL I care about when it comes to a video game is the GAMEPLAY!
Dec 11th 2009 12:41PM The most amazing change this random pug system has brought in my eyes is PATIENCE! I hit random this morning and ended up in Gundrak, which I'd previously run once on normal several months ago and hardly remembered a thing. I died on the first boss but at the last second so everybody else was ok, but I got lost getting back because of the multiple entrances. I didn't take me TOO long to find them, but long enough that pre-patch there would have been an 80% chance one person would have given up. got through the rest of the place fine till last boss. we wiped horribly, and everyone assumed I didn't have enough HOTs on the tank, but I did. took us all a while to get back in this time, and I got killed by the fish once. my armor was starting to show some wear, but we tried again. once again I had all my hots up, and even had to bust out a tranquility followed by a fast NS + HT combo and STILL the tank went bye bye.
we ask the tank his defense rating... he doesn't know what we're talking about. we all realize this and still don't give up. instead we all hearth out, repair armor, and return. we eat, drink, buff up, hell I even threw thorns on everybody just to be sure. the tank STILL wipes about 1/4 the way through, I rez him and keep everybody up a bit longer before our rogue dies. soon after the tank goes down again, then myself and the hunter. the DK was the only one left and I waited for him to go down, but within 30 seconds he'd killed the guy and still had about 500hp of his own left.
once I know all the dungeons by heart myself I'll be happy to just run through silently in 15 minutes but up until now it's been a pain actually being able to learn a dungeon like this. reading about fights is boring, learning through experience is great, but before this patch it was impossible to find people with the patience to actually bother. even if the tank is undergeared it can still be done even if just barely.
Aug 14th 2009 5:39PM well if it's for good then Bornakk is wrong when he says "Ony is still dead, and she's not coming back. This is a one-time thing on the 5th anniversary."
Aug 14th 2009 5:08PM so does this mean the lvl 60 ony will be back to normal when the expansion hits after the patch that brings us the 80 ony? or will she dissapear forever after this?
Jun 18th 2009 10:58AM I never really get "burnt out" on anything cause I have so many interests I just naturally proceed to the next. even with wow I've got no 80s, but 4 characters, 3 of which I've been playing regularly lol... but I've also been playing wow less overall lately to get back into my music. if you get burnt move on... there's plenty to be done in ones short life.
May 24th 2009 1:51PM would be nice if we could search other members somehow... especially by realm. I'm added mike schramm and turpster and a few other people I don't even really know but can't find a single person on my own realm.
May 12th 2009 11:15AM it's not even a contest, really. Nintendo sells a completely different product in a completely different way. I don't see any going anywhere any time soon but I wouldn't call them competitors any more than Maxim magazine is a competitor of the online version of the wall street journal.
Apr 23rd 2009 8:07PM isn't the real issue here that it only crits on undead players? they should just add dwarves to the list and everybody's happy!
