Jun 17th 2010 5:40PM I think what many people forget is that WoW is a six year old game, and for perhaps the first time, they have a legitimate MMO rival coming up, that being Star Wars: The Old Republic.
I've been playing MMO's for a long time, going back to the early Everquest days. On a number of occasions, I've tried to play two MMO's side by side, be it EQ vs Star Wars Galaxies, EQ1 vs EQ2, or EQ2 vs WoW. I can say from experience that eventually one game falls by the wayside. One person in my opinion just don't have time to play both, even in a casual manner, and one game is preferred. That, and it gets expensive paying for two MMO's at once.
Even with Cataclysm coming out (which I'm totally psyched for as I play a raiding tank), I know I'm going to be playing The Old Republic when it comes out Day 1. And I know a lot of other WoW players who will too. And eventually, one game will fall by the wayside.
I expect a lot of hardcore WoW players will leave eventually, because the same thing happened in EQ1. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the casuals will. They have to keep them on to support their business model, until Blizzard eventually comes out with a new MMO.
That being said, Deathwing will die by my hand.
