May 19th 2009 10:06AM Best cure for the extended-downtime twitchiness I've yet found: get something to do the server monitoring for me. Latest util I've found is http://www.realmwatcher.com, which offers RSS feeds as well as email alerting (based on customizable alert conditions, no less).

Email realm status alerts {WoW}
Apr 16th 2009 10:04PM Also noteworthy, and (apparently) relatively new: http://www.realmwatcher.com -- same idea I gather, but with persistent email alerts. Create an account, define alerts for the servers you want monitored, and tailor the alert criteria. If you're too skittish to use your email to create an account, they also offers realm status RSS feeds, fwiw.
