Jan 12th 2012 10:16AM Also, pretend I typed "She" like I meant to. Really.
Jan 12th 2012 10:15AM He almost certainly meant Ulduar :p Specifically referring to the Hard Mode mechanics, I assume.
Feb 9th 2011 5:08PM The Somerville/Cambridge area is especially terrible, because every street is already narrow enough without snow that it's problematic to get down it -- mix in people who 1. suck at shovelling and 2. suck at parking, and driving around town takes 2x as long as it used to :(
I got stuck behind a school bus today which actually got stuck, trying to pull over to the side of the road enough to let another school bus pass. It was sort of hilarious, but it turned what is a 10 minute drive on a good day into a 40 minute nightmare.
I saw 7 smashed side mirrors on my drive this morning.
(On the plus side, it was in the 40s over the weekend, so some if it did actually melt.)
Jan 26th 2011 8:32AM In the old armory, it was possible to get a feed of your in-game calendar, including guild + invited events, out as iCal that you could then import into Google Reader. (The UI generated a token which it would use to authenticate you.) Those old URLs still work, but I guess they removed the UI for generating the feeds from the new armory, which sucks. (Thankfully, I've still got mine.)
Jan 24th 2011 4:44AM The three comments in a row feel very much like sockpuppets. I don't think there's 'folks' involved here, just one jerk. :p (Which doesn't make you less right, just makes the situation less unfortunate than it might otherwise seem.)
Jan 22nd 2011 11:29AM Blizzard doesn't have anyone on staff who can beat these encounters. They've admitted as such before -- they couldn't beat Yogg with less than three watchers with their internal testing team, from what I recall.
The people who play the game are simply better, even not knowing the internals, than the people who write it.
Jan 17th 2011 9:58AM Great article -- though I'd recommend in the future that articles of this type be put out under a general WoW Insider banner, rather than under Scattered Shots, since this is definitely applicable to all players, rather than just the hunter crowd.
Jan 12th 2011 7:54PM The battlegroups are all merged now for the purposes of battlegrounds + dungeon finder, and as a result, I think they try harder not to group across language boundaries. (I think that it's not a hard-and-fast rule, but I have only been grouped with players from non-English speaking location once, after an 8 minute queue for one DPS. I don't know what we were doing wrong, but that usually means the dungeon finder is just ready to find anyone to fill that slot.)
Jan 12th 2011 7:52PM Random LFG tool still works perfectly fine for normals, which are a great way to gear up (through rep as well as drops) for heroics.
Jan 12th 2011 7:46PM Macs, especially mac laptops, make it more difficult or expensive to get a good video card. Combined with driver updates being tied to *Apple*'s release schedule (since you can't install separate drivers -- at least, nvidia doesn't seem to provide them) rather than the graphics card manufacturers, and you've got a somewhat shitty situation for getting high end graphics compared to the ease + cost on a PC.
Cataclysm seriously hindered my graphics on my mac laptop; my roommate is even more screwed. I can't upgrade the graphics card in my mac like I might be able to on a PC, and even if I could have purchased an upgrade at purchase time (I couldn't), the cost to get the cards that are supported by the mac tends to be higher on average.
You're talking about a high end machine already. There are a lot of people out there that don't have high end gaming rigs, and they are the kinds of people hurt. Dollar for dollar, getting good performance out of 3d games on a mac is more expensive than on a PC.
