Optional boss modes making a comeback in Mists of Pandaria? {WoW}

Jan 27th 2012 6:40PM That's the best kind of hard mode activation there can possibly be. Activating the hard mode is a gear check in itself, and it's impossible to activate it accidentally at the appropriate gear level for the content. Thorim is similar, as the hallway group needs to be very fast.

Bad ones? FL and particularly Yogg. You have to do something to turn off the hardmode rather than to turn it on. "I accidentally a hardmode" is not something that should be easy to do.

Optional boss modes making a comeback in Mists of Pandaria? {WoW}

Jan 26th 2012 5:12PM Designing triggered hard modes is essentially a matter of asking two questions:

1. What makes the boss harder on hard mode, and what is the reason this happens?
2. What can the raid do to cause this to happen or prevent it from happening?

If you can't answer the first question, the boss does not need a hard mode. ICC's gunship battle, for example, didn't need its NORMAL mode.

For an example of how this could be applied to a Cataclysm raid boss in a unique manner, look at Halfus Wyrmbreaker. On normal you have two inactive drakes each week, while they're all active on heroic. To make it into a trigger, keep the two random inactive drakes, but allow you to resurrect them before pulling the boss. Conveniently, this also gives you multiple difficulty levels. Rez one drake for medium difficulty, rez both for the full hard mode.

Just apply this thinking to each encounter, and you have an almost surefire way of keeping the triggers varied.

Jan 7th 2012 2:05PM Since all races in WoW have different animations, emotes, and voices for males and females, I like to see as many of them as possible. I have 10 characters, one of each class, all Alliance and on the same server. Except for Male Night Elf and Female Dwarf, I have one of every race/gender combination. I'll only be rolling a Monk if we get at least one more character slot.

Dec 1st 2011 7:35PM Curse Client for addons from Curse and MMOUI Minion for addons from WoWInterface. Best bet is to get both as there are quite a few addons that are only on one site or the other.

Nov 12th 2011 3:45PM The last TWO times I took a flight path into Blasted Lands on my Hunter, it was on fire. Already had the achievement. The first time, there was a fire right on top of the flight path that killed me.

Nov 2nd 2011 6:22PM Nobody has mentioned two-letter names. Good ones are simply the height of awesomeness.

Best possible name for a tank, any tank? "Ow"
Best possible name for a healer, any healer? "Dr"

Nov 2nd 2011 6:20PM Back in Wrath I was once in a VoA PUG with a hunter named "Halpinhealer". Right up until we were about to start pulling, the raid leader thought he was a healer. I've always kind of wanted to make a character with a misleading name like that, such as a Priest named Tank or a Warrior named Healer.

Nov 2nd 2011 6:15PM Unfortunately, Worgenfreeman exceeds the 12 character limit so you'll never see a proper one. Still funny though.
