Encrypted Text: Designing the ultimate rogue quest chain {WoW}

Oct 5th 2011 3:15PM I'm sorry, but I just can't get that excited about these. I'm not too keen about the overall design of the daggers, but it's the tentacles on their final form that really throws me off.

Drama Mamas: Raiding while female {WoW}

Oct 23rd 2010 1:01PM I find the disparity between the comments on this week's article and last week's morbidly amusing.

I disagree entirely with 'flying under the radar', and even the concept of putting on kid gloves for an obviously immature guild. However, Robin's bullet list is for anyone joining a new guild where the members have trepidations. I agree however, that this advice isn't of much use here, as the guild is obviously immature, and Raider Girl should look elsewhere.

What makes me sad, is that 'fly under the radar' was a common suggestion in last week's article comments. Very few people put on the equality war-paint for Gender Reroller, or for the rest of us transgendered players. We were all told to pretend to be what we weren't, to appease the conceptions of other people, and to 'leave it at the login screen'.

While I appreciate the people that ~were~ supportive, the night-and-day between this week and last week is appalling.

Oct 16th 2010 2:03AM Oh, I know. It's just kinda Twilight Zone since that's what I'm drinking right now (and the only soda I drink.)

If you're TG, there is no 'leaving it at the login screen'. Especially when dealing with people who already know your character or your voice. And yes, voice is a big deal. Gender Reroller wants to raid semi-seriously, and Vent is more often than not required, even for PUGs. It doesn't matter how game-focused all of the conversation is, if this person's voice doesn't match the preconceived image, drama will ensue from 'That Guy' if there is one. Digital voice modulation doesn't work for everyone, and that option depends on the why and who: is that how you want to be heard, or are you hiding your voice to avoid drama?

As for 'what did you expect' and 'grow thicker skin', I don't believe Gender Reroller was necessarily naive. At the most, maybe a little under-estimating. I imagine there was hope that people would get used to the idea, or maybe even follow the golden rule regardless. And you can't blame someone for trying to make things work if there's guild history.

@Gender Reroller
I admire your strength and introspective journey. It takes a lot of guts to look at the cards you've been holding for years, and then ask the dealer to replace a few. I apologize for not having much advice for you; I've accepted that (even if I could afford transition) I would never be able to pass. Call me vain if you want. Almost 30 years of testosterone poisoning has left me with a 6 foot tall, broad-shouldered, wide-jawed, boxer-knuckled, narrow-hipped lumberjack body. But I'm genuinely happy for you, and willing to be sappy:
Don't compromise your happiness. Don't let anybody slow you down. Make your new brothers or sisters proud.

And wish me luck for a better hand next life.

Jul 10th 2010 9:49PM Well since you're going to admit to the song not being your style, I think it's safe for me to say that next time you should use a song you truly enjoy. Look at it like Karaoke... you sound hesitant and awkward if you don't like the song, but you give it a new life if you're passionate about it.

As for your alternate-dimension theory about your appearance, I think those that only commented on your appearance probably wouldn't have posted anything, if they even took the time to watch. Some people might have been overly-disappointed in the music due to the contrast between what they saw and what they heard. I don't think they believe you're using attractiveness as a crutch... this isn't E! or VH1, this is a website about INTERNET DRAGONS.

Maybe your next video could be without live action, or at least with less revealing clothing, as a litmus test. And uh... with a better source song from a better artist? =3 I vote Nightwish... or Blackmore's Night... or Epica... or...
