Aug 6th 2011 7:26PM I think you want to ffb glyphed anyway. If you are specced into ignite, the 15% more damage on FFB will make the ignite bigger. Its very rare ignites get munched in frost, so every instant Fof FFB you cast will do 40% more damage as ignite, plus you can have the minor ffb dot ticking to trigger trinkets like the mastery stacking one from the gatekeeper. I run DF FFB and FB glyphs, because the ice lance glyph is diminished by the fact that you are using more of you FoFs on DF and FFB.
Frost only fails at one aspect in PVE: burst AOE damage. Fire is cleaving ignites and arcane mages actully do alot of damage with AE. For fights like the gatekeeper, frost is extemely good. Ryolith, less good.
I support frost as a raiding spec, but its very fight dependent.
Jul 30th 2011 2:46PM Its not that fire's that much weaker, its that arcane is that much easier.
4 mages on 25 Ryo. I'm the only fire mage. I'm weaving flamestrikes and cleaving dots to even appear on the damage meters, and the arcane mages are standing still spamming the AB AEAEAE aoe rotation. And they are beating me, a fire mage, on an aoe fight. The adds arent up long enough to get any good ignite cleaving going on, so the ultra simple arcane rotation wins the day again.
Every fight in firelands seems designed for arcane except firebird and perhaps firelord (we had a frost mage on our first rag kill).
Jul 16th 2011 5:47PM Yes. Arcane missiles is always up. It doesnt feel special like the whoosh sound of a hot streak proc or and extra TV as ret or a fulmination building up as ele shaman. Even tanks have some cooler procs and abilities. As a soon as everyone gets geared enough to make up for the 4k dps I lose when I'm not arcane, I'm totally going frost or fire. They can carry me while I get to have fun again.
Jul 16th 2011 2:41PM Edit^
Arcane doesn't move as well as fire.
Jul 16th 2011 2:39PM I am a mage. A mage who hates his DPS rotation. I was forced to go arcane in firelands as it is the better spec on 5/7 of the fights. And say what you want about cooldowns and situational buttons, Arcane is a two button spec. Even with managing mana, cooldowns, aggro, and positioning (as Arcane does move as well as fire), it is dull and lacks the complexity and fun of the other two specs. And it was overbuffed to the point where single target fights are no contest. I'm wearing all my fire gear with extra crit and no mastery and still do more dps in arcane than fire. In terms of actual design and complexity, arcane is the most boring spec raiding (approx, as I have only raided as 16 specs in cata).

A darn fine reference to a darn fine episode.
Aug 8th 2010 3:06PM Quickly-
My first: Mage, not an easy first class
My GF's first: Ele shaman, not easy at all.
We have both rolled paladins since and leveled in 1/3 of the time. They can heal in the middle of getting hit, strong aoe for pulling entire zones, sweet cooldowns, and good damage reduction.
Paladin was by far the easiest class to level.
