Patch 4.1: Blizzard unveils dungeon finder Call to Arms {WoW}

Apr 7th 2011 3:08PM This is a terrible idea.

I used to only bother with endgame content on my hunter, who was first and most beloved character. Well, tired of having to /roll for raid spots and terribly long queues for heroic 5-mans, I switched to a healing class when Cataclysm came out, just so I'd have to wait less time. Man, I miss my hunter.

Now they're offering rewards to the most-needed roles, which on my server (Uther-H) are ***ALWAYS*** tanks and healers. As a druid healer I've never waited more than 90 seconds for a heroic pop.

This is completely unfair to the folks that only play enough to have a single DPS-only toon ready for heroic 85-level dungeons. I'm pretty sure my hunter will never see the reward unless Blizzard actually forces the system to even if not-needed.

Thanks, Blizzard, for the memories. It's been a great run.

Breakfast Topic: Do you collect anything in WoW? {WoW}

Apr 4th 2011 3:41PM On my hunter I collect cool-looking weapons, mostly 2H staves and polearms, and of course ranged weapons of all kinds and eras. My favorite weapon graphic is still Black Ice: http://www.wowhead.com/item=40497/black-ice

Raid Rx: Raid healing horror stories that taught us a thing or two {WoW}

Mar 11th 2011 3:36PM I'll give you something from just last night.

Our 10-player group was in Bastion of Twilight, running the gauntlet just before Theralion & Valiona. I had only the night before finally assembled Tyrande's Favorite Doll (nearly 200 artifacts, if you're curious) and was so excited about it. I had it macro'd in with Wild Growth so I'd be sure to use it on every CD.

I backed up a little to get out of range of some AoE attack while I was healing, keeping an eye on the pack of mobs behind me so I wouldn't wander too close.

I forgot about the AoE aspect of Tyrande's Favorite Doll. Oops.

Somehow we managed not to wipe. Barely.

Breakfast Topic: Has Deathwing caught up with you yet? {WoW}

Mar 3rd 2011 4:08PM I've been hit twice in Stonetalon Mountains. The zone is narrow enough that you can generally position yourself directly in front of his path before he passes through. The first time, in fact, I had so much warning and stood there for over a minute before he came flying 'round the bend.

Saw him fly close enough to render on-screen on a mediocre laptop in Southern Barrens but couldn't get to the fire to get burned before it went out, however, so I feel the pain of some of these folks.

Addon Spotlight: Archaeology made easy {WoW}

Feb 17th 2011 1:46PM The original author of Archy lives in the flooded areas of Queensland, Australia. I am glad that someone else is taking up the mantle, because I imagine the creator is busy with other things.

I've been using Minimal Archaeology, which is okay but still has some bugs. Its best feature, however, is to show me which of the commons/rares in each race's list I have made AND have yet to make. Just so I need more reminders about how I've made every possible Night Elf rare but the damned trinket. :-)

The Classifieds: Stonecore is hard {WoW}

Feb 2nd 2011 5:00PM Stonecore is tough, no doubt about it... however, like many, I get it more frequently than any other heroic using the LFG tool, and over time it has become more and more straightforward. I know the quick tips to recommend to non-guild puggies for each boss, and things generally stay together with my healing.

For all those heroic Stonecore runs, though... the healer trinket on the Priestess has yet to drop. QQ

Separately, the only heroic boss I've yet to down is the 3rd boss in Grim Batol, Theralion/Valiona. I'm almost 20 wipes down to that duo, and the closest has been 40% with a solid guild group. Many of us have taken down Conclave, Magmaw, Omnitron and are working, on Al'akir, but Grim Batol still gives us more heartburn.

Breakfast Topic: Who would be playable in Blizzard vs. Capcom? {WoW}

Feb 2nd 2011 4:52PM Lady Sylvanas

The Lich King, Arthas version

Mimiron

Lord Marrowgar (BOOOOONE STOOOOORM)

Pandaran Brewmaster

Magtheridon

Yogg-Saron or C'thun (just imagine a cartoony, Capcom'd version running around)

Raid Rx: Handling healer mana in raids {WoW}

Jan 7th 2011 6:30PM I'm looking forward to the Rejuv changes. As a Resto Druid in Cataclysm I had pretty much abandoned my one-time love affair with Rejuv & Regrowth, which along with Wild Growth were my go-to heals in Wrath.

Now it's all about Lifeblood-stacking on the tank + Nourish (or Healing Touch) to renew it, and Wild Growth or Rejuv + Swiftmend for most others. I miss having a reliable heal-over-time I could spread around at my discretion, now that Lifebloom can only be dropped on one target at a time. Rejuv costing 38.5% less to cost might shift that a little. I'm tired of running OOM during big fights, and that's in heroics with 94K, self-buffed.

Shifting Perspectives: Gearing a restoration druid, part 2 continued {WoW}

Jan 4th 2011 8:44PM Great post, thank you. I am looking forward to the trinket, weapon, and relic lists... http://www.lootrank.com/ has given me plenty of ideas and whatnot but can be pretty unhelpful, too, especially with regards to trinkets.

Ol' Grumpy's guide to player reeducation {WoW}

Jan 3rd 2011 7:03PM Szass, you can be as self-righteous as you want to be but you're STILL part of the problem. I'd write out a lengthy, well-thought explanation as to why... but you'd ignore it or disagree, so I won't bother.

You're the worst kind of player there is: a player unwilling to help others "L2PLAY."
