I very much enjoy tanking heroics, and have been a feral tank since BC. The ability to set a cracking pace, sometimes suprise the DPS'ers with your feral tank DPS, and generally have a fast, hectic, chainpulling rampage through heroics is awesome fun... but... with 1 proviso: you do it with geared, knowledgable people. My guild heroic runs are tonnes of fun!
Hence the "PUG Tanking" I opened with. In general, at least on Blackrock, a complete 5 man pug is a nightmare for tanks. Idiots in good gear doing stupid things (Hi stupid mage on HToc who thinks they can pull all 9 mobs before Paletress and survive, and refuse to give me marking lead so you can ML a weapon to yourself!) or people in crap gear trying to get carried through heroics.
But a good pug is sheer delight. 5 people in good gear doing the right thing, ahhh fun times!
Jul 19th 2009 10:56PM What an interesting article - I would love to try out the almighty Boomchicken because it looks like fun. Beffyjunk just proves that you dont need a faceroll PvP class to have fun in arena, and his ingenuity and persistence is an example to all of us.
What a champ!
Jul 16th 2009 11:26PM So what about australians and our friends in south-east asia playing on US servers?
I'd laugh if we had to have our $3000 airfaires paid if we won xD
Jun 2nd 2009 11:23PM Yeah, bear form is just amazing :) I love it to bits - it's adorable but tough-looking at the same time. The Tauren translates really well into bear form.
Jun 2nd 2009 11:21PM I'm not ecstatic about the new cat but strangely I do kinda like the nose ring!
Jun 2nd 2009 11:19PM Badjoke that's kind of the problem... cows and cats don't mix in a cute or pleasing way. Whilst the new art is faithful to the Tauren form, some of us were hoping that they would look (for lack of better word) cuter.
However, my Tauren pride will cause the new cat model to grow on me, and I can probably admire the inevitably-prettier looking Nelf cat form from afar ;)
Jun 2nd 2009 11:17PM I'm in the boat with the others who think that armour couldn't be implemented in a way that would please everyone, and to try and do so would be a huge shift in druid paradigm. Aethetically, and practically for reasons described in the article, armour would be a huge risk to the happy status quo of the game.
Jun 2nd 2009 10:55PM Allison,
Thank you sincerely for a well written article which not only entertains, but also helps to publically put to rest all the common fallacies surrounding new forms. I've had to steer clear of the WoW forums because the constant bitching, laziness of posters, and sheer dumb ignorance of so many posters was starting to make me a very angry cow, and I was starting to take out my frustrations on innocent calves.
Now as for the new druid art. Tauren bear form is absolute bliss - a big burly roly-poly badass looking tank. I'm terribly in love with them. The Nelf bear I confess I am not so fond of, however I believe that this is simply because of the comparison between the incomparable Tauren bear and the less-suited Nelf bear form. Whilst not bad by any stretch of the imagination, the Nelf eyes and colours are somewhat... off.
I waited on tenderhooks for the cat form previews. As a fellow Femtaur I have spent the entirety of my WoW career being embarrased by our cat form. The new Tauren cat form is certainly better, and an excellent 'update' keeping the underlying themes of the original form. However... I do have to express disappointment, only for personal reasons. I was hoping to have a prettier, less male cat form. The bull terrier comparison is justified.
Whilst I will love my new cat, I agree with Allison that it will have to grow on me. Now I eagerly await the Nelf cat form update, as I think they will probably hit the note I so desired for a cuter, less genderised cat. No hard feelings, and I remain eternally grateful to Blizzard's development, art and model team for such a great effort for druids.
Thank you Blizzard!
May 25th 2009 8:30PM I recently took up JC because it was far and away the best profession for me - the prismatic quality of the gems which allowed me to ignore sub-par but required meta-gem slots is a JC bonus which is hard to balance.
Whilst I will miss this bonus, I do think it was 'more powered' than equivalent professions and clearly led to people taking up JC in droves. I can understand why they are taking it away, but I'll still be keeping my JC.
