Jul 11th 2008 8:41PM My exception which proves the rule for me has always been a rogue from my first real guild. It was 2006, Vanilla WoW, and while I had been in a guild or two, they were the type of guild one joins to have a guild tag above one's head while leveling up. This guild was, to my mind, The Real Deal. They Raided (whatever the Hell that was) and I wanted to, too. I was twenty-one at the time. Long story short, there was a rogue in the guild who was INCREDIBLE. It wasn't that his gear was terribly awesome ( the guild was in ZG and MC, which to my noobish perceptions were astoundingly advanced), he was just really really good. I saw the guy do things like kill half a dozen or more people in a WSG before the first guy he killed had even rezzed. That is a maximum of, like, thirty seconds. Ridiculous. So imagine my shock when, after the guild had mostly disbanded and not having seen him on in a couple of months, he asked me to wish him a happy birthday. I was happy to, and asked him if it was by chance his twenty-first, as that is always a good one here in the states. The shock came when he typed a couple of "lol"s and informed me that it was, in fact, his thirteenth! I had played alongside the guy for several months, apparently never talked to him in Vent, and never gotten any impression but that he was about my age or so. My impressions of younger players have always since been tempered by that experience.
