Aug 30th 2010 12:35AM There is one and only one metric that matters for healing, ever.
If your party has zero deaths, the healer did their job in whatever spec they're in, in whatever numbers they're throwing around. If everyone survives, the healer did a fine job.
That is all that ever really matters.
Aug 9th 2010 7:44PM @Siaperas: You know the thing about chaos is, it's fair.
Jun 23rd 2010 3:32PM Places you should use AotD:
Gortok in UP. He doesn't move much, and his impale stands just as likely a chance of nailing a ghoul as a party member. Granted, most healers vastly outgear the place, but they'll still appreciate not having to heal.
Whatever the Voidie is in VH: Also doesn't move much, and contributes some decent DPS.
ToC5 Man: Black Knight P2.
Skarvald in UK: With the way we burn everything down now, having Army out and taunting just makes life easier for the ranged dealers to go totally nuts.
Salramm in CoS: caster who doesn't move much.
Herald Volazj in AK: GREAT for mopping up the twisted visages quickly.
Novos and Tharonja in DTK: Novos doesn't go anywhere, and Army keeps some nice DPS going during the phase changes for faster kills. As long as the tank is spamming taunt in the phased change anyway, it's just good DPS.
HoR gauntlet: If you have a wave that just goes horribly awry, Army can help take the heat off the healer until the tank gets it together. Speaking as a DK tank, this is prevented a wipe or two.
As a DK tank, I use Army as often as it makes sense, and my groups never seem to mind it. For bosses that are rooted (Novos, etc.), Army is just 40 seconds when DPS can nuke without care - and with an ICC geared group, most bosses are down in 20 seconds now anyway.
Jun 14th 2010 7:05AM You don't need a macro. You can do a keybinding instead.
Try this: if you're not already wired up, set bindings for Interact with Target and Interact with Mouseover.
Then, when a lightwell pops, hold down that binding and mouseover it. You don't need to change focus or stop DPS. Just mouseover your lightwell and BAM! heal.
Jun 10th 2010 4:43PM My big thing was that the cinematic with the death of Arthas was... cheap. Reused Icecrown zone music, and fairly anticlimactic, especially for the WC3 players. We've been after this bastard for a DECADE. He's laid waste to half of a planet. Lorewise, he's killed and turned thousands and thousands of our friends, allies, and heroes...
... and his ending is depressingly short. "I see..." thud. Now give someone else the hat.
What happens to all the souls in Frostmourne? Do they get Return to Sender or just lost in the Soul Postal System? What do we do with Arthas' body? Toss it off the edge of the Citadel? Let it just lay there? Burn it and piss on the ashes?
May 24th 2010 12:04AM One other key point - it's not a true defensive CD, but in Unholy with 3 diseases up, Death Strike routinely nets me anywhere from 5K - 11K HP (if it crits) per shot. For fights where the healers can be out of commission for a couple of GCDs, Death Strike + 3 diseases can make or break a boss encounter. I've always gotten grateful thanks from my healers after spike-heavy fights for using Death Strike to lighten their load, especially on any fight that's also packing heavy raid-wide damage at the same time.
May 23rd 2010 11:59PM Unholy DK tanks are rare mostly because folks don't know how to tank with Unholy. For now - which will change in Cata, of course - Unholy excels at AoE threat, far beyond the other two specs, IF:
1. You have D&D glyphed
2. You take the 2pT10 bonus
I've been tanking Unholy since 3.1 and have had no trouble generating or maintaining AoE and single target threat even in ICC. Granted, I've only got 50K HP, but combined with the Frost trinket (Disc-style mini-bubble), I've got 4 major CDs to use:
1. T10 Trinket bubble
2. Icebound Fortitude
3. Anti-magic shell - which is godly in any encounter with debuffs that can fall off, as it's a debuff cleanser if the debuff stops stacking if it stops ticking (like Hodir, Garfrost, etc.)
4. Anti-magic zone - your melee will adore you for this on some fights
My disc priest main healer and I enjoy playing a game on heroics to see if we can chain CDs together and go for 0 damage taken in the daily random emblem run if the DPS is solid. If we can get the boss to last for less than 30 seconds, I come out scratch-free.
Apr 18th 2010 8:25AM The Bone Giants in FoS have a shield that does a spell reflect. Spellstealing does a nice job clearing it and getting back to business.
Apr 15th 2010 8:09PM Ghostcrawler promised me a pony. WoW.com will deliver. This I believe.
