If you have an iPhone/iPad (or maybe its on Android) and have $1.99 to throw at each of the 26 issues I highly recommend the Comixology app. They also have the recent Curse of the Worgen series and just recently added Ashbringer.
Jun 18th 2011 7:56PM Please forgive my insensitivity for folks like you that have people breaking into your homes to steal your WoW account.

You have some options to at least try...
EQ2X is the Free 2 Play version of EverQuestII. With any F2P model you'll probably have to eventually spend some money to get full enjoyment but at least you can check it out for free: http://launch.soe.com/eq2x/ Oh, and hackers will probably steal your info =)
Planeshift is a completely free MMO that I have messed around in a little bit: http://www.planeshift.it/
If you wanna go waaaaaaay back, there is movement by some fans to bring back the original EQ of 1999. If you wanna roll a wood elf and fall off the lift in the dark, check it out: http://www.project1999.org/
I think what you might find though is that the qualities of life you'll be giving up are too much to overcome and eventually outweigh the nostalgic aspects. Obviously your results may vary and I'd encourage you to check them out for your selves. I pop in to all of these from time to time but WoW is still the grandaddy for me.
Jun 16th 2011 7:33PM Finding and entering an authenticator code during the race to re-connect from a dungeon/raid DC was not cool. Thanks Blizz!

Based on your comment about the leveling experience I must not have explained myself adequately. Imagine it like in the last patch of Cataclysm a new level 85 quest line is put in place to "Die for the Banshee Queen" and at that point you are now a part of, let's call it, the Deserters for which a single capital city is erected in said patch, Gilneas could work here leaving the Forsaken in Undercity and still with the Horde. Now with the next expansion you can branch out a third faction's specific quests and not have to build anything for 1-85. In future patches it will be a little bit similar to people who rolled a new toon up to 55 just to roll a Death Knight, but you are rolling it for the sole purpose of deserting your faction at 85. Speaking of Death Knights you could actually go an entirely different direction and instead of have toons in the Desterters faction rolled starting at 82 in the next expansion and have an elaborate 3-level story play out to get you right in the mix with the new expansion.
If this sort of thing gives you a headache then I imagine you still squealing with glee while doing your Tol Barad dailies for the 100th time or running the same heroics over and over and over and over? I for one would welcome a huge mix up like this. Sure there are tons of holes to fill but at the least it is fun to think about.
Agree to disagree =)
Jun 13th 2011 1:48PM RE: 3rd faction && @David:
I came to the same conclusion but then later realized there is one way to get around this. Have the third faction be undead versions of all races. Lore wise we could either be crazy Sylvannas' new faction or perhaps we are under Bolvar Fordragon's control. To make things even more interesting (and solve the starting area and other issues) this could be a irreversible decision at max (or some other) level that a character makes. Imagine an epic quest line where you either decide to submit to the Banshee Queen for eternity or keep fighting and remain with the living in the Horde or Alliance.
I realize this is far-fetched and will never happen, but it is fun to think about. Drooling over an Arathi Basin / Battle for Gilneas style battleground with three teams...
Jun 12th 2011 6:44PM I have a hard time imagining a whole expansion of green hue wouldn't get super old after two years of playing it. I'd be more interested if each expansion (or a late patch of each expansion) opened a zone of the Emerald Dream as on on-going side storyline.
More underwater zones are actually appealing to me. They could really do a lot more there creatively and art wise. Subterranean stuff would work too except that Deepholme kinda skipped us right to the mother-load there.
I think that Argus or some other Legion related expansion is next and simply because the pattern says we might be getting a hero class and I have noticed the subtle introduction of more Demon Hunter NPCs over time.
Jun 8th 2011 12:03PM Man, I so remember falling off the wood elf tree structure and dying alone in the dark when I first started playing EQ. It sucked at the time but it sure is ingrained in my memory.
In WoW I'm not sure there is anything like this. Maybe the closest thing was being an alliance lowbie running across Dustwallow (creepy) and Barrens (on PvP server) to get some warlock specific quests.

I don't know a whole lot about Diablo's Demon Hunter but WoW's is well established. If anything Diablo would borrow from Warcraft. Have a read...
