Feb 22nd 2011 11:54AM Most MMOs I have always done single month. Even WoW, which I played since launch, was always $15 for me.
But, I really liked what I played in the Rift beta, and have subbed at the $10 rate for the 6 month term.
The only thing I am slightly concerned about is that Trion would pull a 'Champions Online' bait and switch with the game play mechanics. That would not be fun, or nice. But, it is only a small concern.
I do think the Open beta are really good for looking at a game as a potential long term thing. As long as they are honest, and not a rip-off & fraud like Cryptic did with CO.
Feb 22nd 2011 11:49AM Yes! Imagine, a Necromancer with a Skelly pet (think EQ1) that has real Heals backing him up. :) Awesomeness. What a hoot.
Feb 21st 2011 8:31PM Meh. I gave up on EQ2 years ago, when it became clear that they had set up, and would maintain, a completely player-hostile environment. From day one, when forced-grouping was the order of the day, to now, where Gear, Spell, and Ability advancement require crafted items, or AH purchase. And, they have set the game up such that you cannot craft what you need, and the AH economy is now so expensive, newbs have no shot.
EQ2 could have been a great game. But it continues to die because SOE just cannot deal with players actually having fun on their own.
It never was a good replacement for EQ1. Heck, EQ1 may actually outlive it.

Rift is going to fit your playstyle like a pair of very fine gloves. All the general solo-grouper options are going to be there for you. From quickly joining a few folks to down a random boss, to running Rifts and Invasions, to participate in Raid size fights, to RvR/Battleground style insanced PvP, to Open World PvP.
And the loot distribution is based on your participation, not your class.
It is really very nice. :)
I never felt left out or slighted, even when purely healing a Rift.
Feb 21st 2011 4:48PM Quite frankly, the whole design change to healing (I played Holy Priest), caused me to give up on WoW. I had played since pre-launch stress tests.
When I hit Heroics (i347), I found a complete mess for healers. Yes, it could be done. Given a guild of dedicated, geared, top-of-the-game players. But an average joe? Forget it. Even at the best of times, some of the fights were pure RNG wins or losses. The Forgemaster in GB being a perfect example.
WoW is just not much fun anymore. Way to much work. Way to much drama. Way to much RNG.
I guess I must be one of the 'Bads'.
Feb 21st 2011 4:38PM It is a great looking game, and am eagerly awaiting the Head-Start launch. That being said, I did play in the last beta as much as I could, and am glad I did.
It is very easy to make a less than optimal choice in the early Soul selections. And, these classes are not like anything I have been able to put together in other MMOs. So, just spending some time doing classes to level 10, or so, really helped me understand what and where I wanted to put my play time.
Those who opted not to get in some experimentation? I would really recommend heading over to Zam and studying the Soul Trees. It will pay off in more early fun as you get familiar with the game. And will really not detract at all from the coming excitement. :)
Feb 21st 2011 1:40PM Just finished the Rift Beta, and really liked the game. Played a number of different class and builds. Enjoyed all of them.
Figure Rift as a mix of WoW, EQ, EQ2, LotRO, WAR, and a few others. Lots of stuff to see and do. Something for everyone. :)
If you liked any of the above MMOs, you might just like Rift even more.
And, no, I for one do NOT want to go back to the EQ1 days when it took YEARS to hit max level.
Jan 11th 2011 2:56PM To little, to late.
Game self-destructed on launch day with the huge change to character abilities.
Time for Super-Hero gamers to go back to CoH/CoV, or on to DCUO.
This game has had it.
Dec 31st 2010 6:03PM Another incorrect point :
The cooking quest to gather the Boar Meat rewards TWO cooking awards !
Does the author even play the game?
Nov 19th 2010 2:26AM I have two major issues with these products :
1. They have NEVER worked well for me. Always some sort of driver problem, buggy software, and such. I do understand they might work for some folks, but have not for me. And I have had a couple (or three) of the Z products.
2. This particular line of keyboards? Having played MMOs for a decade, I cannot imagine anyone other than a left-handed person even considering these things. What kind of experienced MMO player would put the command button set on the RIGHT side of the keyboard? My right hand never leaves the Mouse. All my control is bound to the Mouse, and the keys I have mapped for my left. Bunch 'o noobs designed this thing, and all its little brethren.
So, no thanks. I have had enough of this company, no matter what name they stick onto themselves. Not recommended.
