Apr 14th 2011 7:50PM I love JS Hunter Bar as well. The author is currently working on a redo which will make it flexible to other classes. I can't wait to have a version of it for my alts!
Gimmlette- the author of JS Hunter Bar is very responsive to input. He posts on the MMO Champion forums under the hunter section, and I assume you can also send him bug feedback via other means.
Mar 24th 2011 9:11PM Yes, Femaledwarf.com does take mastery into account, as well as the fact that DMC:Hurricane doesn't proc off of DoT based attacks like explosive shot. It also does reflect the switch to physical hit and crit chance made in 4.0.6.
Jan 28th 2011 3:41AM Actually 1% hit is about 120 hit rating whereas 1% crit is 179. So assuming you can get your hit from reforging crit or weaker stats, you would pick 1% crit over 1% hit, since you get more itemization value from it. Being hit capped is more important than having more crit but with reforging it's pretty easy to stay hit capped regardless.
Jan 27th 2011 2:11PM Just a tip for those that are dwarves- as Frost mentioned, you can get the PvP gun. You really don't have to be skilled at PvP to get it. You only need to win a total of I believe 13 arena games to get it (capped at 5 per week unless you have a high rating). If you get a friend and do 2v2 arenas, even if you play badly it shouldn't take more than a few hours to win your 5 games for the week, since 2v2 games are generally very short and often don't involve a healer.
Dec 13th 2010 3:10PM I think I've narrowed down the issue with retrapping mobs to be a problem with the freezing trap glyph. Once I removed the glyph the traps stopped breaking on refresh. They may still be breaking from resists, but not consistently like they were with the glyph. So I recommend hunters don't use the freezing trap glyph until the problem is resolved.
Dec 2nd 2010 2:35PM You can actually still get into the instances with some crappy gear, since the filter is strictly on ilevel and whether the item can be equipped, not whether it's any good. You can just fill your bag (or even bank) with quest items and BoEs for other specs or lower armor levels and it'll still count the best ilevel towards your avg ilevel. So while leveling if you are having trouble finding a high ilevel item of a slot, don't get rid of the alternative quest items you won't wear that you've picked up till you do, since it'll help you get into the early dungeons. This is what we had to do on beta initially when the quest rewards weren't in yet to meet the minimum dungeon requirements.
Also Frost, have you looked at all into the PvP gear options for PvE? For most users it won't be worth hassling with, but given the gun shortage situation I've been looking at whether the first tier PvP gun might be worth picking up, since I think only the second tier will require rating. I'm not sure what the honor costs will be, but for dwarves it looks like it's actually more dps to use that than the ilevel 359 epic bow, since there is only 72 wasted resilience which would be made up for by the 1% crit you gain.
Nov 8th 2010 4:52PM Actually BE hunters do get some focus back from their cooldown.
Trolls actually get 2 dps bonuses as a hunter, since they have berserking in addition to the bow benefit.
Dwarves just get the crit bonus that we can't make use of a lot of the time due to itemization.
I think a big issue honestly is that Blizzard seems to be avoiding making too many guns because a lot of folks don't like the noise (in addition to the crossbow fetish to avoid making trolls happy too). So as a result, the dwarf racial is being marginalized. Earlier in WotLK the gap between bow, crossbow and gun was never very large, but in ICC there were no guns above 264, whereas there were bows at 277 and crossbows at 271 and 284.
Now in Cata so far there are no guns from raid content that aren't tanking weapons as far as we can tell. So naturally dwarves are concerned.
The easiest solution is definitely to make racials more balanced. I admit to being baffled as to why Blizzard doesn't do that. I know they want worgen and goblins to be a bit better to encourage people to want the expansion to play the new races, but having a little more balance between the older races seems reasonable. Perhaps just adding crossbows to the racial for both trolls and dwarves would help a little.
If they do go for an alternate solution, I'd lean towards Sunwell style tradeins as opposed to reforging, but something would definitely be nice. Or they could just give us more guns.
Really a big part of the problem is that hunters are the only class that seriously uses ranged weapons. So as a result they don't itemize very many of them because they don't want them to go to waste. There's a much larger variety of weaponry available for the melee classes because there's more overlap in use. That's why the hunter situation of needing weapon conversion is a bit more dire than for other classes- they just don't have as much room in the loot tables for us.
Oct 18th 2010 5:18PM Slower weapons are definitely better right now. It's likely that a full ilevel gap (13 ilevels) would probably be required for a 2.8 speed weapon to tie if not outperform a 3.0. This may vary on spec.
Sep 30th 2010 9:10PM Hunter itemized guns have been few and far between :( The gun I told Frostheim about originally was itemized for hunters. I didn't even realized they'd changed it. But it supports my fears that Blizzard may be moving away from hunter guns which would make me very sad.
Sep 9th 2010 2:10PM Right now BM and SV both see solid benefit from mastery, although SV's benefit will be much weaker until they get cobra shot at 83. MM's mastery right now is pretty weak. Of course they're still tweaking the numbers, but I'd guess it's a safe bet that people leveling as BM might want to reforge for leveling to buff up their pet dps a bit more.
