ESRB unintentionally exposes email addresses of people who filed complaints over Blizzard's Real ID system [Updated] {WoW}

Jul 13th 2010 5:52AM WTB Edit button.
The "RE:" at the start does make it look more like a reply-all than a mail merge, but even so, it's not a smoking gun. The sender could have hit reply to one, and the copy-pasted the list of names into the wrong box. I'd still say it's too soon to assume the recipients of the e-mail were the fools.

Jul 13th 2010 5:49AM Why are you assuming that this was a "reply-all" mistake?

It's simply a list of e-mail addresses in a "to:" field - could be a mail merge, a custom database or some other source. Reply-all is only one of the options.

There's no reason to support the theory that these people had each other's addresses or that they were fools.

Jul 13th 2010 5:45AM Unfortunately, the Darwin Awards are only for those who die as a result of their own stupidity, thus ruling the ESRB ineligible.

Customizing and opting out of Real ID {WoW}

Jul 9th 2010 12:57PM There are better options for removing trolling that don't put people at risk. If Bliz wanted to reduce trolls, they'd explore those.
For example, requiring an account with a high level toon to post in most forums (other than tech support). Punish all toons on that account with loss of gear and levels when the account trolls.
Once someone's level 80 becomes a level 70, they'll soon either learn politeness, or fall below the level required to post. Either way, problem solved for that troll.
And no-one gets stalked...

Cataclysm class and mastery system for warriors {WoW}

Jul 9th 2010 8:01AM This does reduce hybridisation for those who don't assume that all hybrids at 51/x/x. That may be an optimal breakdown for raiding, but not everyone raids, or wants to min/max. Anyone who liked something closer to 30/30/11 is, well, screwed.

My problem with it isn't that - it's that it sounds like there are 31 talents in (say) Arms. If I decide to go Arms, I'm stuck to Arms talents - only - for the next 61 levels. I can't even start being a hybrid until level 72. That kinda bites.

The pruning of trees to hold less talents, of which more are fun? That part's great, though. I just wish that these two completely separate things hadn't been tied together.

WoW Rookie: What's new for leveling players in Cataclysm {WoW}

Jul 9th 2010 7:28AM Relatively few people level as main spec tanks/heals before dual-specs arrive at L40. It's easy enough to off-spec heal/tank at L15-20, but gets harder as you go on afterwards.

I'm curious about how easily it will be to perform these roles in 'leveling' specs (i.e. dps) around 35+, and what impact that will have on dungeons at that stage, when people can no longer waste a couple of points in heal/tank talents to make up some of the difference.

This also means that every L10-69 shadow priest (for example) will have exactly the same talent spec, and so on with every other class. Just a little homogenised?

Jul 9th 2010 6:59AM "I hope these talent changes mean that, let's say a ret paladin for example, will no longer be allowed to queue as a tank,..."
I hope not. I'm levelling a baby healer at the moment. I can keep a ret pally "tank" alive at L40 if I have to. A real tank, while it makes my job MUCH easier, isn't totally essential.
Ruling that only pallies & warriors can only tank if they're prot spec will make the dungeon finder even slower, and we all know the queues are too long already.
Blizz, please don't make tanks even rarer with that sort of change.

Security flaw allows addons to expose full real life names without user permission {WoW}

Jul 7th 2010 11:01PM @Naze. Amazingly, those who are my real friends or family in real life can already contact me. I have email, phone, IMs and so on... I don't want to be forced to expose my privacy to do something - that I can already do.

"I have the power to protect myself instead of letting myself be a victim. I'd generally say any woman who lives alone who doesn't own a gun license is being a fool"

Nice. I won't explore whether your life would be better with the scenario of not-being-stalked or Cary-Shot-The-Stalker, that's your choice. Or on whether you are always going to be within easy reach of that gun when at home, or always alert and fast enough to use it.

However, not everyone lives in countries where gun licenses are options. Rightly or wrongly, most of the world takes a different view on gun ownership to America. But we don't count because we're not Americans, right?

Blizzard's responses on the Real ID situation {WoW}

Jul 7th 2010 10:40PM "If im posting a question and someone stalks me then they are sick. End of story."
Yes they are sick.
But not all stories have happen endings.
