Dec 3rd 2010 4:27PM @Res: If someone is undercutting your 40s glyph then why aren't you posting things for 40s, buying up all the 39.99 glyphs and then reposting?
For others, we all know that everyone can only use one of each glyph for each character, but everyone can only use X of any commodity for each character for every commodity. The difference between 1 and X is irrelevant. How many abyss crystals could a person use in Wrath? A caster might need 6 for each staff they get and 4 for each chest they get. So they need 50-80 for the entire expansion and then will never need them again. The total number of crystals that will ever be needed by a single character is basically fixed (and will drop to zero when the next expansion comes around).
The demand is created because there are so many people playing. The price matters because people don't have an unlimited amount of money. If you are very rich, odds are you did not create the vast majority of that gold (creating gold is done by looting it, vendoring things and quest rewards). That means you are making your money from other people who *are* creating gold. Gold creation is generally far worse than auctioneering for actually making you money. While it feels like 200g is just a little bit, for many people it's a lot, and for many of those same people, not buying at all is an option.
I undercut big time and it works like a charm. In my mind, the main goal is to make someone who thinks they can make a huge profit buy from you, then just post more and have them buy those. People who actually need things don't have nearly as much money as people who are just making money, so you should be aiming to get your money from other money makers, not from money creators.
Oct 19th 2010 1:18PM Sthenno the Exalted. Always.
Oct 18th 2010 2:22PM I've been in three guilds in total, and only because I've played on three different servers. I definitely keep all my alts in there. I'm totally in the friends are more important than progression boat, but in my case, my friends are all very interested in progression, so they kind of go hand in hand.
Sep 28th 2010 3:58PM Well, I totally agree with everything in this article except for the conclusion that deathwing won't be the boss of cataclysm. Deathwing will totally be the end boss of Cataclysm, which is not the end of WoW. The Old Gods will be around to keep scheming for the next expansion.
Sep 20th 2010 1:47PM Assuming you get the glyph and do not have to gem hit my back of the excel spreadsheet math suggests that spamming smite is about 13% more healing than spamming heal for about 6% more mana (hitting Archangel about every 18 seconds - you could hit this a little more or less to trade mana for more healing or healing for mana). Of course you have to assume that the healing is doing something useful. Normally I would expect that it should be.
One issue with this, however, is that since you aren't casting Heal on your target you can't benefit from many talents many of the talents in the tree, such as Strength of Soul. Of course without smiting you don't get your 10% spell haste. I would tend to think that the optimal way to single target tank heal in terms of mana efficiency would be to, every 12 seconds, cast three smites in a row, one heal, one pw:s and then another smite or heal as appropriate and activate Archangel every 15-18 seconds. This is probably nearly infinitely sustainable. You can substitute Penance/Flash Heal for Heal any time you need to do more healing.
Of course in real raids I can't imagine just standing there an executing this priority sequence. Casting three smites in a row means not being very reactive.
I'll try to flesh this out in my blog in the next couple of days, because the math behind it is really complicated.

Sep 13th 2010 3:39PM I honestly can't imagine anyone at Blizzard worrying even slightly about releasing Cataclysm in the same week as *any* other title, even Call of Duty.
Sep 9th 2010 3:59PM I actually think increased DoT damage would be a better mastery bonus. This mechanic is nothing but one more thing to animate for people with less-than-ideal machines. It's very hard for me to understand how it would be possible to play well or poorly with these.
Graphics that don't mean anything don't make this boring mastery better than other boring masteries.
Aug 31st 2010 12:46PM Starting on a new server really isn't that bad. You can typically sell even low level herbs and cloth for 50 silver or more per piece (and usually 1g+ for herbs that make hunter's ink). If you are an herbalist or a miner you'll have a few hundred gold by level 20 and you can pick up 20 slot bags no problem.
The worst part would probably be not being able to fly in Northrend until level 77.
Aug 27th 2010 11:01AM I really want to see new tiers of the achievements I already have. Such an an achievement for 45 or 50 reputations, 50k gold looted, 125 mounts, 100 pets, etc. I'd like to see some very difficult to reach numbers.
Aug 25th 2010 10:40AM I prefer the three drakes as they enter this battle, I love them all:
"It is amusing to watch you struggle. Very well, witness how it is done."
"I will take pity on you, Sartharion, just this once."
"Father was right about you Sartharion... you *are* a weakling."
Their disdain for Sartharion is incredible.
But speaking of twilight dragons, for some reason I just love the line, "The heavens burn!" from Halion.
