Gold Capped: When glyph prices hit the wall {WoW}

Aug 2nd 2010 7:30AM Chas, the prisoner's dilemma is relatively uncommon in real life because it only occurs in pure form in situations with no iteration, where the participants have not met before and will not have to interact again.

The latter part is most important, as screwing the other guy near-invariably leads to repercussions from them and others around you in iterated situations.

That's also why the worst examples of human behaviour often occur in anonymous circumstances with complete strangers, and/or when the participants never expect to interact again.

Shifting Perspectives: Revisiting Cataclysm talents, part 2 {WoW}

Jun 17th 2010 6:13PM They removed Master of Deception and left in Feral Instincts deliberately. Ferals will have equivalent stealth to rogues, other druids will not.

You seem to be working with a different tree than others, as the improved charge spoiled to the rest of us gives 30% melee haste independent of form, not 10% extra damage in bear...?

Also, judgment of light and wisdom are still class-unique buffs, though not spec-unique. There's a few minor ones like this still kicking around.

Shifting Perspectives: Cat 101, part 3 {WoW}

Feb 9th 2010 2:14PM ...

This is not good advice.

Feral Swiftness - getting around faster is a significant DPS increase on Marrowgar, Deathwhisper, Gunship, and Blood Princes, and moderately relevant to Festergut if you get orbed and need to run to range. While you need to allow the tank to get to where you are going before you, you may be further away from the target than the tank, or you can stay on the main target longer before switching than the tank. If all you do is saurfang, by all means, cut it...

Survival Instincts isn't mandatory, but it greatly improves your ability to clutch OT, and is definitely relevant to dps on a number of potential maybe, maybe not one-shot situations - surviving inadequate Festergut stacks, for example.

Feral Aggression by contrast sucks. For a fairly geared Feral, Toskk's calculator has each point at a whopping ~20 dps, for a total increase of ~100 dps for ripping 5 points out of raid utility points elsewhere. Not worth it at all in my view.

Shifting Perspectives: Cat 101, part 3 {WoW}

Feb 9th 2010 2:05PM Great article, but some quibbling about stat weights - you recommend ArP stacking a little too aggressively, and underrate crit at high gear levels.

Gemming Agi instead of ArP is a fairly minor DPS loss even with quite good gear (~20 dps for my 2943 Wow Heroes Feral), makes your gear much better for Bear activity, and simplifies the rotation slightly.

Additionally, with 4 piece tier 10 crit is better than every other stat but ArP and Agi, and Agi is better than ArP. Yes, it is a pretty distant goal for a starting feral, but it sucks for someone to get something like a Sack of Wonder that they're probably going to be using for the rest of the expansion and have them gem it incorrectly.

Breakfast Topic: Abuse of the "Report player AFK" feature {WoW}

Dec 1st 2009 8:38AM I got flagged and kicked for doing the quest to get the standard, so I could be more useful on O and D in future AVs. It takes a fair bit for a clothy to clear out all those mobs around it.

Thanks a bunch whoever did that.

Patch 3.3: Quel'delar caster mace hastened {WoW}

Nov 14th 2009 8:02PM A rare drop that is lower ilevel and comes from a boss with many excellent DPS weapons is *totally* comparable to Quel'delar.

Blizzard: Arenas were a mistake. {WoW}

Nov 14th 2009 12:39PM There is no question that arena involves a higher skill cap than most portions of the game. It is fine that most people don't want to get involved in that.

Just balance rewards so that Arena participation is competitive with BG participation, but not greatly superior to it. If BGs rewarded about 80% of what the same time spent in Arena did, and had access to the same gear, I don't think people would complain too much about the existence of arena.

As for PvP changes affecting PvE, keep making them, but only the largest stuff. 3.0 DKs and ret needed to be fixed, but RMP can continue being slightly OP, and those who arena can deal with that as an enduring feature of the game. (No, I don't play an R, M, or P).

Blizzard: Arenas were a mistake. {WoW}

Nov 14th 2009 12:30PM What? These are horrendous points. It boils down to:

a) Some classes should have no chance against other classes; and
b) I shouldn't have to put any effort in to killing some players.

If you honestly believe this, you shouldn't be involved in PvP at all. PvE is the medium designed to support this attitude.

Which class gets invited as what? {WoW}

Aug 2nd 2009 4:10PM Hmm. I would think there would be more Paladin tanks than that, but perhaps I just know a lot of Paladin Tanks.

In fairness, I also know multiple Bear tanks, though I never see them pugging.
