Jul 29th 2010 4:43PM When is wow.com getting a new warlock columinst? All of this reading about the beta (and all the awesome changes and things going down) and everything else for other classes makes my hate fueled fire flinging locks heart sad.
Jun 17th 2010 12:08AM It's all about taste. For me I can't stand GRRM it's too bleak and dark even for me and I love bleak and dark. When people ask about it in the bookstore my general recommendation is well if you enjoy rape and murder every five pages you'll love it but I'm not a fan.
On the same note Robert Jordan is crap as far as I'm concerned and I tell people that. On the other hand Tolkien and Lewis were geniuses and I fell in love with Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden as soon as I read it the same with Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. But I have friends who hate both those series for various reasons and I respect that.
To me Golden produces what I expect of series novels like Star Trek, Star Wars, or Warcraft which is a decent story involving characters I know and love and lore that I will enjoy from their universe. Knaak on the other hand is everything wrong with the universe and must be destroyed before he can produce more Mary Sues that I have to accept quests from and talk to.
Jun 16th 2010 9:29PM Interestingly although there is a kindle version of this book there is no epub for sony or kobo or anyone else to use. You would think blizz would want to get this out to the most people in the most formats possible either that or they are silly enough to think that everybody with an e reader is using a kindle.
May 31st 2010 7:09PM Great list as always Hobbs, but you missed probably one of the better trinkets out there if you know how to use it right. The Never Melting Ice Crystal out of Pit of Saron Heroic. For an affliction lock that thing can rock especially on a straight out stand and nuke it fight. But you need to use it right.
May 3rd 2010 1:32AM I'm going to say this now and probably get downrated to heck for it but if you are running as a healer and you roll on an item with hit that's fine IF none of the dps want it! As a DPS player leveling there was nothing I hated more when I was and still nothing I hate more than a healer stealing a sub par upgrade for them (hit is a wasted stat for them) out from a DPS who was probably farming it intentionally for that hit to get capped. So please ask the DPS if they mind you rolling as it's an upgrade for you too if they are rolling need or announce at the start of the dungeon that you are going to roll on those specific items that way the DPS can know what to expect and can either drop or do what they need to do.
Apr 29th 2010 2:24AM I see both sides of this argument....
As a 10 man raider (I wouldn't say we are hard core we are 11/12 in ICC 10) I love the fact that I will finally get my shot at loot that right now I can't have. And before some idiot jumps in and says I could get it I would just need to run 25s that's not an option for me with my current schedule or gaming machine. No longer will I be forced to use sub par trinkets because Displaced Foreign Object or Reign of the Dead is only available to 25 mans. I did the same encounter as they did (and btw a 10 man encounter is just as challenging in 10 man gear as a 25 man is those of you talking about easy 10 mans try doing it in 251 gear go ahead put your 277s away for the night and give it a shot) and yet I can't get the same gear that's stupid to me.
However I feel for players like Dawn who love 25s for the epic feel as they are going to have a harder time. Though I don't think the sky is falling and that they will have the opportunity to 25 man if they like it. I don't feel for Rossi or Anne or some other though their arguments are weak.
Rossi wants to argue that 25 mans lose out because they cant get extra gear. I say good I'm tired of having other players ROFLstomp content that is hard for those it was designed for and complain about how easy achievements or loot is to get in those encounters. As for shaking down new raiders choose a night run an old raid see how they do mechanics don't change that much that you need to see them in current encounters to check them out.
Anne wants to argue that 40 mans were more epic somehow....sorry they weren't. In fact the idea of a 40 man raid doesn't feel epic to me it feels like a waste of time and energy. The fact here is you are wearing nostalgia goggles and it's easy to say now that was awesome not remembering the hard part. Want proof ask a mom in labor ask her if it's awesome (cover your junk if you are a guy you're gonna get hit). Now go back to that same woman five years later and ask her she will probably smile and tell you how it was all worth it and how wonderful it was.
A lot of the others are arguing this is the end of their guild to them I say if the only thing holding your guild together was raiding then maybe it deserves to die if people would rather do 10 mans. Personally I think what we will see is large guilds go to a many raids model.
The question Blizz is asking themselves right now is this. What serves the bulk of our players the best? They realized in wrath that letting 10% of people see new content sucked for 90% of the population so they changed that and now anyone can see leading edge stuff with much less effort. They are looking now and seeing that 60% (made up numbers I'm guessing here) of their raiders can't get awesome gear because they aren't 25 man raiders as well that the 40% that are 25 man raiders are cheesing content that wasn't meant for them and using 10 mans to supplement gear and test out raids before they do them for real. So they have proposed a solution that they think servers both groups. I think they may pull it off but we will have to wait and see.
