'Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two' coming to Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 {Joystiq}

Mar 21st 2012 6:37PM @F1shBone Hear, hear! Practically the only decent platformers on the system have been XBLA remakes (BK, BK2, Rayman 3...). Even B-K: Nuts & Bolts, while fun, wasn't really a platformer. It's very upsetting.

BTW, I really recommend checking out "de Blob 2"! Come to think of it, there are a lot of parallels between de Blob and Epic Mickey: both Wii-exclusive paint-based games with non-exclusive sequels...

Achievement policy changing for XBLA titles, raising Gamerscore allotment [update: confirmed] {Joystiq}

Mar 12th 2012 12:05PM @Uncommon Microsoft seems to be willing to bend the rules on Achievements for the right games, anyway. (Well, what THEY consider the right games, at least.) Perfect Dark XBLA launched with more than the normal number of achievements, Hasbro Family Game Night had more than 200 gamerscore years ago, and the fantastic Pinball FX2 has extended its achievement list every time it adds a table... and it's up to 28 tables!

Do Japanese RPGs need good stories? {Joystiq}

The main character in FFXIII-2 is a woman and the narrator (and driver of the plot) is her sister, who was also the strongest character in FFXIII. Your stereotype of JRPG women is a bit outdated, in Final Fantasy at least.

Personally, I thought FFXIII's plot was quite good, though you had to pay close attention (and read the synopses) to really understand what was going on. That's part of the hazard of building a world not based on standard fantasy archetypes; Skyrim didn't have to spend any time explaining what a dragon, mage, or werewolf is...

XBL language filter prevents harmless words from being used in Quarrel {Joystiq}

Jan 30th 2012 3:50PM The most hilarious example I've seen was when COPULATE was the anagrammed word. One of the people I was playing with figured it out, but the game wouldn't let him enter it. But when the round ended, it was explicitly listed as the anagrammed word!

gg Microsoft...

(In fairness, the Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary is also censored. Big corporations are spineless.)

PlayStation Vita's rear touch panel almost got bumped {Joystiq}

Jun 22nd 2011 7:40PM @(Unverified)
Yeah, and when I tried it at E3, holding the device normally meant my fingers were already against the touchscreen, setting it off. I had to adjust my grip for segments where it was used, and it wasn't very comfortable. I'm pretty skeptical it'll be anything more than an awkward gimmick that games feel obligated to make use of... and I get enough of that with Nintendo systems. >_

Don't forget Murray from Monkey Island!

Rhythm Heaven preview: For your ears only {Joystiq}

Jun 11th 2011 11:25PM The game isn't controlled completely using the A button; that's the reason the green-eyed ghosts kept getting you. IIRC you had to push Z or something for those. :)

Review: Nimble Strong: Bartender in Training {Joystiq}

Jul 8th 2010 9:52PM This actually sounds a lot like the 2000 game Last Call. That was also a great, and educational, game.
