May 8th 2010 8:23PM I think you mean Anubis, not Sphinx. Or, you might mean ancient Egyptian in general, since Anubis is a male deity, but other depictions of Egyptian deities can include zoomorphic humanoid females.

Cataclysm new zones and sub-zones list {WoW}

May 6th 2010 4:03PM Another interpretation of the list is that [Unused] zones are ones that are not used in the pre-xpac world event. Perhaps because they will change drastically, or because of distant/obscure location (Teldrassil), or possibly some other reasoning.

The Daily Blues {WoW}

May 6th 2010 1:42AM I think there will be far more people who are happy to experiment with new stuff than there will be who have a sincere grief with losing their gems and cookie-spec. Most people I know who play often also like to experiment constantly. Big Changes = Big Fun, as long as they are properly spread out.

There are always the types who vote conservative because change bothers them...

Jace Hall tackles media coverage of WoW addiction {WoW}

May 5th 2010 8:43PM CNN, Fox News, etc exist to make money through selling advertising access to captive audiences. They engage in the same tactics of exxageration and controversy that games use to hook and retain an audience. I could list adults that are just as "addicted" to commercial news as gamers are to WoW, and they are equally nonproductive pastimes.

It's not addiction, it is the engrossing nature of human interaction and expression seen from the perspective of New Media, for which our society still lacks the appropriate terminology to describe.

When these New Media become entangled with mental health concerns, they are not new or more dangerous, but only familiar problems in unfamiliar form.

Encrypted Text: Hit and expertise in Icecrown {WoW}

Mar 17th 2010 9:59PM I was in a rough WSG. The game had come to a standstill 1 to 2 (old school WSG rules). I managed to get into the Alliance base and grab the flag, and used an enthusiastic but undergeared mage for a free charge out the door. There was fighting on the ramp and in the enemy's graveyard, but I peeled off last pursuer on the wall and ran out on the roof of the tunnel.

I jumped off that roof, and charged right into 3 Alliance defenders below. I sent all 3 to the graveyard, and they hardly had a chance to respond. They never saw me coming. With nearly half their team waiting to res in the GY by my own hand, I had a clear run across the field and capped the flag. The Alliance team rushed to try to make the final cap, but the rest of the Horde team was still in Alli base. They grabbed the next flag, and ran it in while I hamstrung the Alli FC as long as I could last.

That's when I knew that I made a good choice. RIP BC Arms Warriors. You are missed.

Additional instances can now be launched {WoW}

Sep 5th 2009 6:10PM Unless they increased the realm populations significantly, or were already linking new realms to old realm instance servers, it seems unlikely that the number of people running instances rose significantly. More likely, I think, is that they gave us a lame excuse rather than reveal trade secrets, and then got lazy about fixing the real problem. For some servers, the errors have been slowly increasing since early in the expansion till the latest maintenance. My server, for example, was virtually blocked from instances for 12 hours a day, even when a survey of instances on horde and alli showed relatively few people; only about half dozen 25 raids, dozen 10 mans, and maybe 3 or 4 dozen 5 mans. This is much fewer than BC or earlier in WLK.

Guildwatch: Loot reservations required {WoW}

Aug 12th 2009 4:47PM From the shape of the vehicle, the blast damage and burn marks, I would say with certainty that the original image is from Iraq or Afghanistan, and that a whoever was inside is now dead or suffering from severe trauma. It is extremely distasteful to use an image of war in this manner. This lacks even an argument for parody, since the key element has been reduced to a mere prop.
