Pack up your toys: LEGO Universe is shutting down at midnight {Massively}

Jan 31st 2012 1:54AM @fauxcivility Oh, please. This is nothing. They got to play for a year. MMOs with box + P2P have closed in less time than that. APB, for example, died after six or seven weeks, and offered exactly zero refund on anything.

At least these people are getting refunds for a month and their time cards converted into something else.

Drama Mamas: The case of the mass guild eviction {WoW}

Jan 26th 2012 9:25AM Hate to say it, but I agree with the Drama Mamas. You guys allowed this to happen to you. You had entire months of the GM's obviously exploitative behavior being plainly visible - and yet, you sat there and allowed it to happen.

No, I don't believe Blizzard should have done more to help you. You had the option to get out and solve your problem months ago, and Blizzard's stance on guild leadership has always been "30 days or we don't do anything."

You had months of the GM's crappy leadership, and took it sitting down. Especially with the logging in once every 30 days - it's exceedingly obvious he was using you to level the guild.

Newest version of GTA mod brings us one step closer to a GTA MMO {Massively}

Jan 26th 2012 9:11AM @(Unverified) Great idea - too bad APB: Reloaded is awful.

The Daily Grind: What's your favorite item-quality system? {Massively}

Jan 21st 2012 6:05PM Using different color gear is fine if you don't do what WoW does now - EVERYTHING you get at the level cap is purple (with an orange if you're lucky enough to not only get picked to get a legendary by Blizzard, but your guild too). Gray and white disappear past level 5 or so, and green and blue only pop up as you level or when a new expansion comes out - then you're back to full purple.

SWTOR unsubscribe option goes missing for some [Updated] {Massively}

Jan 19th 2012 9:43AM @jslim419 Yeah... no. I'm pretty sure it isn't very common for a whole MMO to simply "lose" an unsubscribe button.

This "call us to cancel" thing is how X-Box Live works, too. Then they can harass you to stay, since you're on the phone.

Free for All: A second look at Fallen Earth's free model {Massively}

Jan 19th 2012 9:39AM @Braiks No, EQ2 went "fully" F2P last month. Prior to that they had free servers split apart from paying servers.

The Daily Grind: What's the longest an MMO's been out before you've tried it? {Massively}

Jan 19th 2012 9:26AM I tried LotRO and EVE a little over a year ago. So that's three years for LotRO and I don't know how long for EVE, but I think longer than three years.

If it counts, I bought an EQ2 account four years ago but didn't play it for longer than two or three days until this week - so seven years.

The Daily Grind: What's the longest an MMO's been out before you've tried it? {Massively}

Jan 19th 2012 9:24AM @Ehra You know, I never thought about it, but you're right. I think that had to be my favorite part of EQ2 as well. All the other MMO's out there now try to be doom-and-gloom graybrown terrain 24/7, while EQ2 is very light hearted and colorful.

Free for All: A second look at Fallen Earth's free model {Massively}

Jan 19th 2012 9:07AM @Azzura What do you mean? The only restrictions on what characters a returning player are character slots. I haven't played EQ2 in over four years, but when I returned to check out the F2P style I was able to play all of my old characters - even the ones who were races/classes that I had to "unlock."

And I wouldn't call the new system "useless" to Vet players. It wasn't meant to give you a bonus if you were a vet - the system was designed to give you exactly what you had before, and I think they were fairly successful with that. If you were a vet player and come back and pay the $15 a month ("Gold" level), the game is exactly the same as it was before plus a cash shop.

The only concerns EQ2's new F2P style is that they are loading everything onto the cash shop. I get that they need to put unique things on the cash shop or veteran players would never buy it, but they aren't giving anything to crafters or in game vendors to craft in the past two updates. Just cash shop stuff.
