The Light and How to Swing It: Dissecting the melee healer myth {WoW}

Oct 30th 2011 5:22PM From a purely gameplay standpoint, no, there's nothing to be worried about with monks. From the standpoint of having always desired to play a paladin as a righteous protector and holy warrior who wears heavy armor and wields a weapon with skill for a reason, I have to admit to being quite jealous indeed that we're still relegated to standing in the back and looking shiny.

Doesn't it fit the concept of a paladin more to be in the thick of things? Praying and laying on hands and BEING a beacon of light, but also striking fear into the hearts of our enemies? I've always acknowledged it would be difficult to pull off a melee healing model -- even a rather hybridized version as a paladin's would most likely be -- but Blizzard now seems to think it's possible but not worth trying out for an existing class.

What do others feel about this from a concept standpoint?

The Queue: The life of Deathwing {WoW}

Sep 20th 2011 12:02PM It still seems like there's a problem: even if Nozdorumu puts it back after we're done with it, it was still missing during those intervening years and the events at the Well of Eternity cannot come to pass (in the manner they did) in that particular timeline.

The way they're portraying time travel, either history continues as it has up until now -- Well of Eternity happens, etc., and we we're stuck with an on-the-loose Deathwing -- or we take the Dragon Soul from the past, disrupt the Well of Eternity shindig, and use it to defeat Deathwing in a completely different present; a present which might not even exist, since any number of things happened such that we come back to a completely different present than we expected.

If we want to go the multidimensional route, then we're ruining some OTHER reality's version of events to save our own. See?

I'm not normally such a stickler for minor inconsistencies in the name of fun, it's just that this is an intriguing problem to think about and one worthy of critique, that's all. The new endgame scenario really seems like first draft material to me. Maybe I'm still missing something here. :)

The Queue: The life of Deathwing {WoW}

Sep 20th 2011 11:34AM According to the official Patch 4.3 dungeons preview, we will "need to steal the Dragon Soul hovering above the Well [of Eternity]" in the second of the new 5-man instances. Even if recovering this artifact would help in the fight against Deathwing, doesn't the fact that we're monkeying with time (which we've been told by members of the bronze dragonflight itself is a BIG no-no) mean that we wouldn't be coming back to the same present?

The Dragon Soul apparently factors into a lot of important events after the throwdown at the Well of Eternity; stealing it at that point in time would severely alter the flow of future events such that none of our characters would even be born!

I get that it's just a game, but this really strikes me as very poor storytelling... surely there are other ways to make our final encounter with the erstwhile Earthwarder an epic and dangerous experience.

Aug 19th 2011 1:30PM With current top tier gear (PvP and PvE) item levels already in the 390s, what do you think we'll see with the Deathwing raid? Armor at 400+? Labeling weapons 399 but packing 'em full of delicious stats well beyond the listed item level?

This is just idle curiosity on my part, but it's an amusing thing to consider. I'm also assuming that the item levels for this expansion are/were meant to stay within the 300s (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's how the last two expansions treated item levels; i.e., Wrath of the Lich King gear didn't break 300); is this true or just how things have worked out so far?
