Hidden Wrath site discovered in Blizzard newsletter {WoW}

Nov 1st 2007 1:35PM Plenty of time. It's going to be a while. Probably Christmas 2008 knowing Blizzard.

Reviving the pugs {WoW}

Oct 24th 2007 10:21AM I tend to agree on the Horde/Alliance thing - from my ancedotal evidence on the two servers I'm on.

I tended to find getting a group for Horde was harder, but when you did there seemed to be a high chance it would finish.

Getting a group for Alliance was easier, but it always seemed disposable and it never finished - and it seemed to be populated by people who had other people controlling their time (like a parent).

I'm now playing Alliance 60+ so we'll see how it goes, now of course the problem is finding anyone as everyone has levelled so to speak.

Dyack sees unified console as 'inevitable' {Joystiq}

Oct 23rd 2007 12:52PM Also keep in mind that Microsoft is undoubtedly an advocate of this one console approach - as long as it acted as a suitable vehicle for its software.

Microsoft is a software providor, the Xbox 360 is a strategic tool to stop other hardware devices getting into market segements it wants a part in that might not use their software. Why do you think the Xbox 360 is going in an IPTV direction? Because Microsoft have an IPTV platform a lot of telcos are looking at or are using.

If the Xbox went for a standard console, they'd be the first to drop out the market as long as it used their development tools and linked to other elements of their software infrastructure.

After all, they don't build PC's.

Considering a real simulated reality {WoW}

Aug 15th 2007 2:44PM There is also actual scientific stuff going on now that starts to merge with fringe science and the like, which puts forward that physical reality may not define consciousness, but consciousness may define physical reality and that we are only binding ourselves, etc.

All interesting, or I find it interesting anyway.

Considering a real simulated reality {WoW}

Aug 15th 2007 2:42PM Yeah, that was a program on British TV a while back about how, as science pushes more and more boundaries, the question of God continued to come up. Basically, the more science pushed, they more signs kept coming up that some intelligence may be behind the Universe. Long time ago, so I can't remember the details, but it was something to do with a number of common factors, etc.

Anyway, that's not the main point, one of the elements of the program was how computers might eventually make it possible for us to simulate bigger and bigger elements of the Universe and Life to which would help us start to answer some of the still 'unknown mysteries'.

The trouble was, it then went full circle, and postulated that if we are slowly aiming to do that, simulate more and more of what constitutes life to find answers - who is to say it hasn't already been done, we are it and that is essentially the secre behind some of these common, can't be an accident factors science keeps encountering.

I thought it was interesting anyway. I'm summarising, it was a well thought through documentary, not sensationalist,etc.

Breakfast Topic: Which faction is more mature? {WoW}

Aug 15th 2007 8:37AM I can only go from experience on the two servers I've played on, and I had a much harder time on Alliance. Invariably on the Alliance side I'd be at the whims of players who aren't in control of their own lives. This made life a pain.

I'd also find if a PUG did happen to form, it rarely *ever* finished the instance for one reason or another - it was like people intended it to fail or expected it to fall apart before the end.

When on the Horde side you had the odd bad group, but you also had a great chance to be involved in a PUG that might as well have been a guild group as everyone was that professional.

As I say, only two servers though.

Ding fries are done - the Halo 3 media onslaught begins {Joystiq}

Aug 9th 2007 8:10AM The most impressive Halo 2 marketing I saw was pretty much every tram in Melbourne totally painted with a Halo 2 image. Impressive and surreal at the same time.

Jul 28th 2007 11:15AM Well, I wouldn't visit the Magic Kingdom park - it's a bit of a dive :)

You know you are too old to play WoW when... {WoW}

Jul 18th 2007 6:43AM There is some level of shorthand, which is sort of okay.

There is then leet speak, which generally is about using certain phrases to brag in a e-peen manner.

Then you get what is neither shorthand or leet speak,l but actually just people assuming the language they use on their SMS phone messages is proper English.
