Dec 22nd 2006 5:41PM Not to be a sourpuss, but am I the only one who finds this not funny at all? I mean, this is not your average everyday teasing, but rather textbook "abusive dad"-style criticism. This guy is viciously demaning to people "under" him, provides no constructive feedback, and confuses a person's foibles at a *game* with their value as a person.
The fact that we're viewing this as funny somehow is sad - this guy is just a sad dude who chooses to express himself in a really bitter and hateful way. The fact is that, in real life, this mode of relating is very often a prelude to serious violence. (And given the fact that he's chewing out his "subordinates," it reminds me most of violence perpatrated against kids. Happens a lot.)
Applauding it just seems a bit immature to me.
Oct 26th 2006 11:55AM To #4: your math is off. Since you buy cards by the pack, you have a chance to score a card with every pack. Thus the odds of getting one are 1:576 - not great, but not the worst in the world.
Sep 8th 2006 5:03PM I think this discussion is overlooking a critical piece of context. If we are interested in finding a useful generalization to make about players who are antisocial, inconsiderate and socially irresponsible, then we should disregard age, as people have argued here, and look at a whole other cstegory.
That is, the most obvious similarity among such players is that they are *males*
Think about it: in each case of the offensive behavior we are talking about, how often do you think the offending person is a female? Now, I am a male, but it seems obvious to me that the antisocial dickheadedness we're discussing is found overwhelmingly more in the real world among men than amongst women (or boys vs. girls).
Just a thought to possibly direct the blame where it belongs :-) Now, flame away!
(Betcha there are no girls reading this thread.)
