Breakfast Topic: Did Arthas do the right thing in Stratholme? {WoW}

Jan 29th 2010 11:04AM Make no mistake, I'm *only* speaking in terms of the game. Would I condone such behavior in real life? Hell no. I'm the only person at my college that is anti-death penalty on the grounds that we shouldn't be killing people. Hell, one of my teachers thought if you were 14 or older you should be eligible for the death penalty. I think we can keep our real life morality separate from our gamings/readings. I slaughter massive amounts of zombies in Resident Evil, but if a real zombie takeover happened, I would probably have a problem killing any zombie just because I feel that they have just as much a right to live (or be dead?) as I have. Drizzt Do'Urden slaughtered countless Orcs in the Hunter's Blades Triology, would you condone that? And he's THE HERO that gets the chick at the end. Not some Retardin that converts to Death Knightology.

Breakfast Topic: Did Arthas do the right thing in Stratholme? {WoW}

Jan 29th 2010 10:29AM I can't believe I'm actually responding to this. YES. Arthas was right. Stratholme was the second biggest city under Lordaeron. Regardless of whether or not EVERYONE was infected when he killed them, they were GOING to be infected or convert to the cult. It was Ner'zhul's intent all along to have him do it, not doing it would have simply screwed him over while letting the Burning Legion win. Terenas and Arthas both refused to leave for Kalimdor, and Jaina would never have bothered to lead survivors there if it weren't for the events at Stratholme as long as Arthas remained within the kingdom. The massive force that would be accrued at Stratholme would overwhelm the entirety of the Eastern Kingdoms, particularly since Northrend wouldn't need nearly as many forces to "soften up" Arthas for his conversion.

In the end, however, everthing happened for a reason. If the Scourge hadn't gained Arthas, they wouldn't have had a champion strong enough to revive Kel'Thuzad and give Illidan the skull of Gul'dan. If Illidan hadn't consumed its magicks, he would've been no match for Tichondrius. Tichondrius would have overwhelmed the Felwood, and the Battle for Mount Hyjal would have been like a steamroller with Tichondrius AND some of his forced going against a paltry assortment of Orcs, Trolls, Tauren, and Night Elves WITH THE SCOURGE at his back. MAYBE it would have been possible if Grom opted against corruption and SOMEHOW managed to take out Mannoroth on his own and Cenarius was left alive. But I highly doubt it.

Arcane Brilliance: Why I hate DPS meters {WoW}

Arcane Brilliance: Why I hate DPS meters {WoW}

Jan 23rd 2010 10:48PM Well, like I said, 3/5 of the group were running together and included the tank. I was just happy to be in a group for one of the new heroics to gear up (even though most of the gear was useless for a Frost DW DK). What really hurt was the fact I was votekicked for DPS while they went on to HHOR, an instance I desperately needed for a mace. I had to get the triumph trinks just to get into HHOR after all the gear req increases, but now I'm at 15% hit (which is 1% over the spell, which IS NOT recommended for ANY DK). It's even worse for me since the only spell-class skill I use is Howling Blast (which I only use when the rune cost is free anyways), my RP dump is ALWAYS Frost Strike. I have a sick wish that DKs had a threat dump, like feint or ice block, on a cooldown.

Oh, and for anyone wondering, I'm Blood Caked Blade/Frost spec, but I modified it a little to pick up Subversion while I gear up. Once I'm raiding regularly and my DPS picks up, I'll pull em out of Subversion.

Jan 23rd 2010 10:00PM I got the triumph trinks just for the gear score, even though I was already melee-capped. It worked though, I get a lot less bitching even though my DPS is lower than when I was using blues with straight attack power or crit.

Arcane Brilliance: Why I hate DPS meters {WoW}

Jan 23rd 2010 9:41PM Ironic that you should mention this, cause literally the day before the "aggro off tank is the DPS's fault" article, I had...a group let's just say. In Heroic Pit of Saron.

First off, tank, heals, and one DPS were on the same server, probably gear farming. I was pulling about 3k DPS, but that was causing me to pull aggro. I have three points in Subversion and was in Blood Presence. The healer blamed me for the wipe, telling me that the tank is a warrior and I have to wait for him to establish AE aggro. Never mind that there was no marking going on and I've NEVER had a problem with warriors AE tanking since TBC. I even managed my first Culling of Time achievement with a warrior tank.

As you can guess, things were not going to go well, at least not for me. We inched out Garfrost. Had a drawn out battle with Ick, and moved on to the cave event. Near the end of the cave event, the tank lagged behind, but other DPS didn't bother to wait. I did my best to pull aggro off healer (thank Blizzard for Death Grip) and OT while the tank caught up.

Needlessly said, Tyranus took FOREVER. I made a point of waiting for my magic 3 procs to come up (Fallen Crusader rune, T9 2pc, and Sigil of Virulence) before popping ghoul and Army. Yes, procs give bonuses to these summons, and the DPS can get wild if you hit it perfect. FC is 150 strength while I think T9 and Virulence are 200. 550 bonus strength stacked on % based talents (improved ghoulie FTW). Even after all this CD pops, my ghoul was about 1:30 away from refreshing.

Anyways, we finished the dungeon with that one trash wipe, with me holding back my DPS on trash (and STILL managing to pull aggro somehow) and was only pulling 2k DPS. The group went on to HHOR, but votekicked me for my low DPS.

The moral of this story? Uh...I do low DPS, have 3/3 Subversion, am forced to hold back my DPS because (apparently) warriors are the worst tanks (contrary to popular belief that it is druids), and I have to simultaneously do more DPS AND less threat, even with my threat reducing talent. My only conclusion was to get Omen that night, an addon I thought I was done with when tanking was made much simpler in Wrath.

I made a point not to rate them with Elitist Group though - I try not to take vote kicks personally, and I don't think I could've given the group fair ratings because of how wrongly I felt treated. I honestly wish I knew what *I* could have done better, because I really needed the HHOR mace at the time (now I'm WAY over the hit cap thanks to the Triumph trinkets). I'm mostly trying to gear up tanking gear at this point so that I can get my randoms done faster (DK tanks have the best DPS in my experience) and maybe even down an ICC wing.

Jan 22nd 2010 9:53PM "Not to mention -- I had this argument with my guild the other night -- we're in the stronghold of a guy whose claim to fame is raising people from the dead. I don't think it breaks from theme to have someone that you've slain before brought back again."

Magister's Terrace was just a setback?
