Jun 24th 2010 8:41AM Grats! My wife and I also play and it is our anniversary today as well (15 years). Two years ago I took a great job in NY but my family is in eastern CT. While looking for a house in NY for my family to move to, I am renting an apartment and stay there during the week and go home on the weekends. WoW has been what has made this separation tolerable. Unfortunately two years later we have still not found a house here in NY so every night we get on vent and raid, quest or whatever and its almost like we are not apart.
Happy anniversary hun

Apr 8th 2010 12:32PM While Interesting, I think there are a couple issues with translating action in the Virtual World to action in the Real World.
One of them another poster already touched upon, the fact that the in the VW, ultimately, the only chance for failure is if you don’t do it. If a quest is too hard, you can wait a level. For an escort you can get help etc.
Another reason is that there really are no repercussions in the VW as there are in the RW. In the VW if you don’t go farming, you don’t make a little gold for the day or have flasks for tonight’s raid. However if in RL you don’t go to "work" you don’t eat, pay rent etc. This fact will limit what people do in RL because of the RW repercussions. Often people will shy away from the ideological in favor the practical.
I think also in the VW we are all perfect. We are fit, good looking (at least according to the standard for the race :)), have no handicaps and are accepted. This emboldens us to do anything and everything. However in the RW, none of us are all of these things and our "flaws" are factors in shaping our mental image of ourselves and subsequently what can and can not do.
