Jul 16th 2010 3:10PM Karazhan was a crucible for many reasons. Sadly I find the conclusions drawn in this article to be trite. Which environmental effects you should or should not stand in, which adds and when you should kill them, and raid placement/movement are superficial lessons to learn. These things will let you step up from solo questing and hitting 5 mans to not getting booted from a raid. But that's hardly "all I needed to know about raiding."
The last point only briefly mentioned is the only real lesson listed. A lesson I learned in Karazhan is raid composition. The step down from 40 to 10 man raiding was significant. You didn't have the option to simply throw in 10 players who were interested, you had to account for raid composition questions. Prior to Karazhan raid composition was basically 5 of each class.
Jun 21st 2010 3:54PM Given the propensity of players to adopt 'cookie cutter' talent specs once EJ (or someone else) has theorycrafted the optimal set, I believe the same will be true of guild talents.
Someone will theorycraft the perfect set of talents for a PVP guild, another for raiding. If your guild does not have the right talents, then it may cause a barrier for recruiting and retaining players in your guild.
You claim that talents would allow for another degree of differentiation of guilds. I maintain that it will not. Cookie cutter guild talents will prevail, thus restricting your selection of talents.
I highly prefer the current method where all guilds get all talents. There are so many other ways for guilds to differentiate themselves, this one with its potential pitfalls need not be a new one.
Signed by a hunter with a wolf.
Not because I like wolves but because any raiding hunter without a wolf is mocked.
May 26th 2010 10:19PM You reference a pretentious article from over three years ago on why Macs aren't real computers. The entire article not once even mentions anything concrete about Macintosh or Windows/PCs. Nice.
May 6th 2010 11:47PM First, thanks for the constructive criticism. I was honestly expecting trolls instead of quality critiques.
I actually have 245 T9 gloves and 232 T9 pants that I wear for bosses for the T9 2pc bonus. This also drops my hit to 272 without a draenei. Armory has what I wear for trash and heroics.
@jakep_82 Just as you argue that 450hp shouldn't make the difference between a wipe and a kill, 30dps also shouldn't. For a 6 minute fight, 30dps is a total 10800 damage. That's theoretical max DPS vs hard survivability. I'll stick by my choice :)
Given how much I pay attention to my shot rotation and how much extra movement I do as raid leader, I just don't think that adding more steadies into my rotation will be a net DPS gain. I've been thinking of switching my talents and shot rotation for a week of raids and see what it parses out as on wowlogs.
It's also important to note that I purchased the cloak and belt while I was raiding on my resto druid, and I didn't know when my hunter would be in 25s (or even 10's). I'm also pretty sure the belt replaced an ulduar item. I'll replace it as soon as a better one drops in ICC.
