And I have a huge issue with this, because it implies that every woman born before the 1900's was messed up in the head. By today's standards, EVERYONE was a sexual predator or a sexual victim back then. It's a huge step backwards for society when we keep cutting deeper and deeper into what makes you a sex offender. First it was Rape and Child Molestation, but now it's streaking and teenage sex. I can guarantee you it will only get worse from here. I told people a decade ago, and a decade before that, and I've been right so far. Rape is bad and everything, but that's not what's being argued here. It's that we're putting PISSING IN AN ALLEY on the same level as RAPE, and then judging people based on that. It's absolutely ridiculous, and unfortunately one of those things that makes the feminist movement look bad (though that's an entirely different issue).

You know what other crime fundamentally changes who you are that you CAN'T continue living a normal life after it happens to you? That there's no List for? And that has NEVER been acceptable in history?

Murder.

Really?

I find it extremely hard to believe that you wouldn't like to know whether or not your neighbor has a history of stealing cars (stealing ANYTHING) so that you can take necessary precautions. The Sex Offender list is one of the biggest blunders in US justice history. Not only does it punish people for their entire lives, not only can you end up on it for committing a "victimless crime" (hell, it doesn't even have to be illegal), but sex crimes are the only category where a list like this exists. And that's ignoring the fact that we view sex offenders to be worse than serial killers in this country, and that if you're accused of a sex crime then it's game over for you. Even if you're proven innocent, reintegrating into society is impossible. You have to move, change your name, etc. It's a mentality that actually makes keeping track of legitimate rapists and child molesters unnecessarily difficult, for both civilians and law enforcement.

I absolutely stand by the guild leader's decision to do nothing. If there was no misconduct on the part of guild member X's, if he wasn't starting trouble, and if there was no reason to think that he would other than him being on the List, then who cares?

"That response prompted some members to /gquit for moral and ethical reasons."? Good riddance. I'd rather have someone in my guild that's on the List than have someone that would jump to conclusions based on the List. That kind of shit is exactly what I was talking about in the first paragraph.
