Apr 3rd 2012 12:11PM This describes World PvP pretty accurately. But it doesn't (or shouldn't) describe a good battleground, anymore than it shouldn't describe PvE. You don't just run at a boss, die, run at a boss, die, and repeat.
And RetPallyJil... I know you hate the Horde, especially the forsaken... c'mon... we ALL know you do!
You've got an arsenal of tools, use them to support your team. Throw heals, use your defensive cooldowns, stun and interrupt. Stick with a ranged DPS or another hybrid, and the two of you can get a lot done.
Apr 3rd 2012 12:01PM I'm with you there. My very first server was a PvP-server, because I was told by a "friend" that you will never have to wait to play on a PvP server. I saw a lot of PvE servers say "Full" and "High" when I was creating that first, happy character, so I chose a low-pop PvP server instead. "Why wait to play, right?" Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
So yeah, world PvP in MOP... when the game isn't and can't be balanced around 1v1. When the Arena masters will be level 90 and fully-geared in Mists honor gear at around day 3 of the expansion, cruising the starting zones for some cheap honorable kills.
Apr 3rd 2012 11:50AM Seriously, jump into Alterac Valley and follow along. Be a supporting player. If you're not familiar with AV, you can read up on it, but for a newcomer, the four most important things are:
* it's 40 v 40, in a huge zone. You won't stand out, and you won't win OR lose the game on your own.
* the best thing you can do as a newcomer is to help your team. Follow a small pack of players and do what they do. Heal, stun, interrupt, DPS, do it if you've got it, just help your mates.
* remember that you DON'T suck, despite being told so before the match begins. Trust me, it's "that guy". He'll be in every game. Repeat: Every. Game.
* finally, if you get a message saying that you've been reported afk, type /afk to stay in game, it's a troll. (If you do type /afk, you will be teleported out of the battleground.)
Oh yeah ~ have fun! You're just dipping your toes in the water, you never have to do it again, and the very WORST that can happen is your team loses, you don't earn much honor, and you have a tiny repair bill.
Apr 3rd 2012 11:36AM An instanced Wintergrasp has been my dream since Cataclysm dropped. I started enjoying PvP with Alterac Valley, but it was Wintergrasp that won me over.
PvP is just a sideline for me, something to hop into when I'm not up for anything else. But that might be because of Wintergrasp being gone. I was always up for it. My play time alternated between Argent Tournament, Wintergrasp, and queueing for Northrend Heroics.
Call me jaded if you like, but alternating between the Molten Front, Tol Barad, and Cataclysm Heroics does not equate fun for me. (Told Barad dailies are okay.)
TL;DR - Vote "Yes" on Instanced Wintergrasp!

You can still get them from the vendors?
The quest gear is supposed to start you out, and they haven't been using unique or especially interesting models for the starting gear since BC. Everything you can get in Borean Tundra / Howling Fjord, you can get in another zone or dungeon. The only really unique model that I've seen in a Cataclysm starting zone was the Medusoid Staff, but even that's available from Karazhan.
Mar 30th 2012 10:59AM No, you're not the only one who likes it.
I started playing Rift about two weeks ago, and was stunned - literally stunned - to see that each class got a different yet perfect quest reward. It was a brilliant design, and I'm glad to see WoW steal... er... "borrow" it.
Mar 30th 2012 10:51AM You can't d/e gear from reputation vendors - not even Tranquillien! - so I'm guessing you won't be able to d/e this stuff, either.
Mar 30th 2012 10:34AM I'll admit it's weird, because I never thought of my characters as "cartoons". If you come from a pen & paper RPG (in the 80's), they're properly called PCs (player characters).
But of course, PC has a different meaning now. Soon to be outdated as everything moves to smartphones and tablets, but still, in the context of a home video game right now, PC has a different meaning.
End of day, cartoons are awesome, so it's okay for me to say toon when referring to my PC. It's those stupid dungeon and raid acronyms in trade chat that get under my skin.
Mar 30th 2012 10:12AM Wait, wait, wait... what was that thing about warlocks wearing... *leather* back in 2004?
(I'm not a soccer mom, and you don't define "baby" so I may or may not fall into that category, but I wasn't around in 2004. Warlocks wore leather once? Really?)
