Marie Antoinette, Back in Vogue {Cinematical}

Sep 22nd 2006 9:24AM Hmmm...

American Liberals try to tie it to the war on Islamic Fascism, and the French boo it.

Proof positive that Pop will eat itself.

Kurt Cobain in Pulp Fiction? {Cinematical}

Sep 21st 2006 8:08AM Riiiight... Starring in yet another Hollyweird movie that centers entirely around Sex and Death would have convinced Cobain (whose musical works centered entirely around Sex and Death) from committing suicide.

Nope. Nothing wrong with the culture here!

Mark Beall's Geek Beat: Star Wars Musings {Cinematical}

Sep 21st 2006 7:15AM You like the old movies because they were an outstanding morality play.

The new movies suck because their just a giant navel-gazing exsercise in moral equivalence and obfuscation.

DDO solo play now available {Joystiq}

Jun 7th 2006 7:22AM DDO was crap.

Too much twitch based combat. (If I wanted an FPS, I'd PLAY an FPS).

HORRID class and combat balance. Hey everyone, let's burn through all our spells in the first quarter of the dungeon and spend the next 45 minutes scratching our ass and wondering where the next rest shrine is!!

A slavish adherance to the d20 system DOES NOT WORK IN AN ONLINE MMO.

Clumsy, confusing, user-UNfriendly UI. If I didn't know better I'd think the UI was designed to HARM the user.

Primitive graphics. Can anyone say Old-Ass EQ??

Goofy-ass world design. Seriously did anyone put any REAL thought and creativity at all into what Stormreach was supposed to LOOK LIKE? Looks like someone vomited a city made up of every half-ass fantasy-art cliche in existence.

WTF with all the holes in the ground? Want to go on a quest?? Go find a hole in the ground!!

Goofy-ass narrator.

Way too much useless and crappy loot - seriously WTF was half of that shit for??

WTF with all the G*ddamn barrels you have to smash???

WTF was the deal with searching? Seriously... WTF WAS THE DEAL WITH SEARCHING FOR G*DDAMN SECRET DOORS?!?!?!

I am absolutely mortified that the same people who made this giant pile of refuse have been handed the LotRO game too.

Racialized Trafficking in World of Warcraft {WoW}

May 24th 2006 6:30AM Oh God. Another stupid-ass "IS EVERYONE SECRETLY A BIGOT" post.

Are you THAT desperate for material?

Please... go smash your typing fingers with a hammer... or something... but for God's sake quit making us suffer this sort of crap.

MMOs: the near and distant future [Update 1] {Joystiq}

May 2nd 2006 7:46AM The whole gang over @ Terra Nova can be summed up as follows:

NEWSFLASH: Terra Nova Sez People Won't Like Hamburgers Anymore!!

Almost everyone over at Terra Nova is a BIG FLAMING LIB. They apply their personal beliefs regarding RL society to Virtual World Design - which is why all their "Progressive" ideas regarding the future of MMO's look less like a legitimate prediction of future market trends than they do a lot of old, tired, regurgitated socialist manifestos of the 20th Century.

And just like in RL their ideas will function in small, isolated, limited ways and ONLY because of the success of more traditional societiy.

In other words the only reason Sweeden can have a 70% tax rate and no military is because the USA kept the Soviet Union from overrunning and dominating their Hippie asses. To that extent games like EVE Online or ATITD (which have all these "Progressive" ideas they go ga-ga over) only work within the broader market because of the traditional giants like EQ and WoW who make the MMO a viable large scale gaming genre.

Guess what Terra Nova. 20 years from now?
