Nov 5th 2009 10:23AM Actually looks better than I'd suspected. Gief!
Oct 29th 2009 8:51AM There's not a lot to push you into PUGs over grouping with friends. The badge rewards are exactly the same. Currently (on the PTR) you get some extra gold for PUGging, but there was a blue post yesterday that said they're reviewing that. There are achievements and (eventually) a noncombat pet for PUGging, which is fun but hardly crucial.
I don't know how big the ninja chances are. If you're PUGging you'll use a fairly restrictive version of "need before greed" where you can't Need gear you can't use; in fact melee is prevented from needing Spellpower gear and (for example) plate users can't need cloth. And they're Heroics anyway, so it's not like this is uber gear we're talking about -- ToC and Icecrown excepted, I suppose.
They also said they'll expand the Ignore list so you can Ignore toons from other realms in your battlegroup... and you'll never get PUG-matched with toons on your Ignore list.
I'm not saying this will all work perfectly, but they're at least trying to address all these concerns. And if it doesn't work, just get your usual group of friends together and you can get the badges without dealing with any of the hassle.
Oct 29th 2009 8:09AM I'm most excited about running instances while leveling. I've got a warrior sitting at level 27 waiting to start up with this. I figure I should be able to find a healer and 3 dps across the whole battlegroup.
From what I've read on the forums, players are getting worked up because they think they'll be forced to PUG. But you can still form a normal, 'premade' 5-man and run the 'daily' random heroic or regular instances. This is completely additional functionality and takes nothing away from the way things work today. If the random PUGging works, it's pure win. If not, no loss, and you can still get the instant teleports.
Oct 28th 2009 11:48AM Just got done leveling my rogue to 80. This is a great leveling 'guide' for its simplicity; most of the others I've read offer too much detail. A minor quibble: I leveled as Combat and I didn't find it boring; you have plenty of choices.
A big part of this is Riposte, which I would recommend for leveling as Combat. It's not a level 80 tool -- as a rogue, you don't want things hitting you if you can help it -- but you can use it a lot in leveling. As such, it's a great attack with low energy cost, as well as a useful debuff. Plus, combat is more interesting when you're using a reactive ability like this. Add in choices like Kick and Dismantle, and you have a lot of reactive choices that keep life interesting.
As you keep working on the leveling guide, I would really encourage a guide for "you've dinged 80 - now what?" That's IMHO a lot more challenging then leveling. Suddenly you have to get new gear, change specs, use different abilities and different rotations, etc.
Oct 8th 2009 11:28PM I'd bind that Use trinket that I never remember to Use.
