The Queue: I need to read more {WoW}

Mar 28th 2012 12:31PM @michelle

Gotta admit, the planting of fists on hips gets old pretty quickly. And it drives me nuts how petty some of the women *coughnynaevecough* are in the books, but WoT is leaps and bounds greater than most series out there in my own experience. And then I remind myself that I'm getting annoyed at a fictional character; being able to evoke real emotion for characters is the trademark of a master writer.

Also, every writer has a few choice phrases or metaphors they use more often than others, and in a series as long as WoT it's impossible not to have some repetition.

The Queue: I need to read more {WoW}

Mar 28th 2012 11:06AM As for a book recommendation: Wheel of Time. It's huge (over a dozen 800pg. long books), it's amazingly well written, and the last book is set to be published within the year. The genre is epic fantasy.

Mar 28th 2012 11:03AM Q for the Q: How are the Pandaren visual aesthetics in the beta so far? Are they straight Chinese, or more of an original mix of Eastern Asian cultures? Does it come across as unique?

I’m asking for three reasons: (1) I don’t have a beta invite, (2) I don’t want to have the quests spoiled by watching YouTube playthroughs, and (3) Screenshots may not tell the whole picture.

Mists of Pandaria: Pet Battle system details revealed {WoW}

Mar 27th 2012 9:59PM Meant to be a reply to Revynn in the above thread. It ate my second post then kept this one in a seperate thread >:(

His opinion is the only one that matters? He thinks everyone should think as he does? I didn't get that vibe at all. I think you're posting about something that's not even there.

And Xeno didn't say they shouldn't be spending development time on it. He just wishes they weren't. It's a very clear distinction.

P.S. DAMN YOU COMMENT SYSTEM!! *shakes fist at the unfeeling heavens*

Mar 27th 2012 9:31PM And so continues the trend of downvoting minority opinions, while upvoting those that insult said minority opinions. Xeno's post was valid and not douchebaggy in the least. We may not agree with him, but that's what opinions are for right?

I would rather that Blizz devote Pet Battle manhours to, say, green warlock fire, but I'm still looking forward to WoWemon. Doesn't mean I need to downvote xeno.

Two Bosses Enter: Murozond vs. Queen Azshara {WoW}

Mar 26th 2012 5:01PM Although we all know this is ultimately a popularity contest, the victor in an actual duel is decided by one factor: can Azshara dominate Murozond? If she can, then it's game set match. She makes him stand still as her mages wail on him, or something more diabolocal. She IS Azshara after all.

If she can't dominate him, it goes to Murozond. The mages will come after him two at a time, and will be easy fodder. Even with the time reset, I just don't see pure magic users beating a former Aspect.

I'm inclined to believe she can't dominate him, so I'm giving this one to Murozond.

Breakfast Topic: Has your opinion about the pandaren changed? {WoW}

Mar 26th 2012 11:21AM You guys already won the argument. I think it'll be easier for me to accept pandas now.

But I got to correct you Luotian. I obviously wasn't saying China had less "culture". I was lamenting the lack of cultural diversity and uniqueness in Pandaria. It's China. Not a fusion of China and some other culture. Not Pandaria. Just China. It's like they're not even trying.

Breakfast Topic: Has your opinion about the pandaren changed? {WoW}

Mar 26th 2012 11:03AM @mako All very good points, and I agree with you on most of them. With the exception of humans (classic medieval), gilneans (London, wot), and goblins American consumerism, Jersey), all of the races are a blend of cultures and styles. NElves are oriental, indian, and a dash of amazonian. Orcs are barbarians, mongols, and Japanese. Draenei are gypsies, arabic, and a tad Egyptian. Trolls are carribean voodoo and deep African jungle mysticism. Tauren mix Native American with a touch of mesoamerica and Indian philosophy. And so on.

Blizzard has made unique races and cultures before, but with Cata (Egypt/Uldum, London/Gilneas, Scotland/THighlands, etc.) and now Pandaria, I'm getting the very real feeling that they're slacking. And that makes me sad :(
