Officers' Quarters: The great raid-size debate, part 3 {WoW}

Nov 16th 2010 11:13AM Since we're a fairly large social guild that raids, rather than a raiding guild that's social, we've found that the best change about all this is the flexible raid lock - before now we had to try and work out what nights would be more likely to get a 25 group etc and plan around all that, but now we're just going to do something like: Wednesday: Blackwing, then if we get 10 signups, 10 man, 25 good signups, 25 man, 20 good signups, 2x 10man. The flexible lock just makes it even easier to get people into groups later on in the week and keep attendance high.

Of course ymmv, but with several different raid leaders and lots of guild members with different schedules, we're really excited that Cataclysm is going to allow us to raid a lot more than we were previously - less cancellations for things because people are either saved or not enough people on for a 25.

Nov 11th 2010 2:20PM From my experience on the Beta, you retain your Loremaster title and achievement, as well as LM of EK/Kalimdor.

Whoever mentioned IDs was right - all of the Quests that you've previously completed STAY completed as long as they have the same IDs. These quests are all assigned to a particular zone, and your counter should start on the number of quests that you've completed in that zone, e.g. I had Northern Stranglethorn (50 quests) already achieved on my character in the Beta, because I'd done them all on live. Other zones would have things like 46/54 etc, which probably reflects the number of new quests in that zones. Newly created zones, e.g. Cape of Stranglethorn, started at 0, although I'm hoping that that is mostly due to all the STV quests being applied to Northern STV and will be fixed come Live. If you have Loremaster already, then you'll be very close to earning all the Quest achievements, it'll only take a small amount of quests - almost all of which will be new.

Sep 30th 2010 1:13PM As far as I can tell your first decision is to choose the Shadow Tree, which gives you Mind Flay, sounds pretty sweet to me. The first 2 tiers are accessibly by other trees as well, which is why they're trying to keep them general.

Totem Talk: Enhancement beta update {WoW}

Sep 6th 2010 9:00AM With the addition of LvB to MW, I think that Glyph of Stormstrike will become less valuable, since some of our MWLB will become MWLvB instead. Unless the FS dot duration has changed, it'll go from 18 seconds -> 27 seconds, which allows another ES weaved in, which can only be a dps increase over refreshing FS earlier.

You also mentioned that LL has been pretty bad damage, but they've already increased the base damage as well as adding the Searing changes. They increased the cooldown as well as they wanted a more hard-hitting button to press since a lot of our melee strikes have been weak in WotLK.

I've got to completely disagree with you about LvB not feeling 'enhancey'. Given that Enhancers are the melee spellcasters, how can you accept things like Flame Shock, Fire Elementals and Lightning Bolts but not Lava Burst. Aside from the mechanics of the spell (i.e. harder hitting, has a cooldown, guaranteed crit off a FS) Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst are exactly the same - a long ranged attack from one of the elements (lightning and fire respectively).

The wording of grounding is confusing, but from what I understand it's not a chance to reflect the spell, it's a chance whether it lands - for example, Spell Reflect will always reflect the spell but it won't always hit the caster - I think things like hit rating (and minus hit %age chance against certain elemental type racials) have an effect on it. The totem, IMO, will always bounce the spell back, but it's not guaranteed to land.

Cataclysm Beta: Restoration shaman talents and specialization {WoW}

Jul 16th 2010 7:51AM You keep talking about loss of crit here, or loss of spellpower there, or loss of coefficients somewhere else, but the fact is, as you've said yourself, is that it is a BETA. There have been countless messages that when Cataclysm hits we should be doing the same amount of healing (or dps/tanking) as before it hits. The loss of crit/spellpower talents shouldn't make a difference, so I don't know why you spent so much time getting hung up on them when you could have been talking about the two most interesting talents in the tree - namely Focused Insight and Telluric Currents.

It's also possible they reduced the LHW crit on tidal waves because we'll have more crit generally anyway, or quite simply because they don't want us to crit as much! Let's face it, Improved Water Shield has been our big mana return so far, but if they want to push talents like Telluric Currents as a way of returning mana, then they need to nerf IWS so that we won't use that instead.

The shape of raids to come: Guild leaders look ahead {WoW}

May 4th 2010 4:35AM Although I'm in a guild that currently focuses mainly on 10 mans, and we will likely continue this in Cataclysm, I too would like to see a 25 man/10 man switch on a per boss basis. So assuming Icecrown was our example, you get saved to an Icecrown raid with x/12 bosses killed. But you can do Marrowgar on 25, Deathwhisper on 10, Gunship on 25 heroic and Saurfang on 10 heroic (as an example) all in the same lockout.

The main benefit to this would be allowing raids to continue "understaffed". In our case, if we had a load of people sign up for a 10 man raid on a Wednesday (inb4 lolEU), we'd probably end up making a lot of people miss out, simply because if the same number don't sign up on the next day, we're locked out of bosses we might have been able to kill with a group of 10. By allowing us to switch, we can run 25s when numbers allow, and still be able to finish our instances if we don't fill up the subsequent raid. Splitting the two raids wouldn't necessarily help either, because you don't know who will or will not be coming to the next one.

Cataclysm Class Changes: Warlock {WoW}

Apr 7th 2010 3:56PM It looks like on only one spell. And most likely a spell that's the top of the destro tree (i.e. the new chaos bolt).

Our goal for Fel Flame is to provide a spell that's good for mobility and for use by Destruction and Demonology specs.

Think about it for a second...

Every time I see someone make that assertion, I want to break up laughing. OF COURSE YOU CAST FASTER. Whether it's 1% precisely or not is irrelevant -- that statement is misleading on its face."

He's not saying that you don't cast faster, what he's saying is that 1% haste is not 1% faster casting.
