Jan 8th 2010 1:04PM If you get hacked, its your own damm fault. Stop using easy passwords, answering spoof emails or visiting sites that infest you with malware. Or signing into WoW at gaming cafes, or school, etc.
If you get hacked, its 100% your fault for not taking basic measures. Its the equivalent of leaving your front door open and unlocked when you go on vacation.
Sure, any security method can be defeated, nothing is perfect. But can you honestly say that any hacked WoW account was singled out to be the target of a dedicated hack? Are you so special that they picked you out of the armory to target? Of course not.
How do they hack 99% of accounts? They send out spoof emails, sponsor fake gold/leveling sites, and sit back waiting for idiots to reply with their passwords.
*I don't have inside knowledge of blizzard security, but I'm basing my comments on years of doing IT and computer security, plus their own comments. Hacks are like car accidents, almost all are preventable by not being an idiot.
Nov 3rd 2009 2:18PM I haven't read this one, but I've generally found the Pop Culture and Philosophy series to be enjoyable reads.
I'm 30, so a few years removed from taking undergrad philosophy courses during my BA, but if you want something that is a light read, but not total fluff, about a subject you like (WoW in this case), I'd generally* recommend them. And as others have noted, its something to read while AFK or mindlessly patrolling for a rare spawn.
*I say generally, b/c as collections of essays, it is a bit hit and miss.
