Jun 15th 2011 12:41PM I figured they would have really kept with their "Console Only" promise for Dust 514. i didn't think it would be PS3 exclusive though, which i don't like...
but after finding out that the xbox 360 doesn't play nice with computers, i can understand. The fact that it's freemium does make it a bit better though...

The game looks pretty amazing, and it seems Bioware has done a little bit of homework as the trailer has something for everyone. PvE fans? Has a promise of raiding. PvP fans? Shows off a few things to do on that front. RPers? I can't think much more of a reason to showcase social hubs. Those wondering how it would stack up to other MMOs? It does point out a lot of the staples of MMOs are in. Star Wars fans? Well, Bioware knows that audience well.

(Points to those who understand just what i'm talking about (and to those who don't: She's from touhou and is a were-hakutaku (cow-beast thing with about 7 pairs of eyes.) who is the village's history teacher. Normally her power is to devour history, but when the full moon comes around she transforms and gets the power to create history. an idea of how her power works is shown in-game, technically. When you meet her as all of the player character teams all ask the same question: "Where's the human village?" (with more or less the same response of: "I made it so that historically, humans never settled here."))
Feb 24th 2011 6:31PM oooh, I need to dust off my rogue then. Hadn't played him since a bit before Cata, but if the steath speed change makes it to live, that's gonna be fairly nice.
I am ambivalent on the shammy changes. Non-channeled Earthquake seems better (not sure if 40% less damage is good with the amount of mana it sucks up... maybe 20% - 25% would be a bit better.) and the Fire Nova change might be useful for PvP situations... The Minute Long Magma totem change is good though, as it would be very helpful as a Tower Defense Warning in AV.
Druids get no real game changing changes, which is actually a good thing, if you think about it: No Nerfs. (No buffs either, but that's livable.)
Mar 30th 2010 8:39PM I think it's the fact that some of the more prominent F2P MMOs tend to be mostly "few quests, lots of monster killing" grind that makes people lump them all in the same boat. Good examples are Runescape, Mabinogi, and Maple Story. (Seriously? Kill 100 boars as a quest?)
But there is some fun to be had in the F2P MMOs. One of the best experiences i had was with the beta and early Mabinogi, sitting around a campfire in the middle of a field just chatting and playing music while dangerous wolves circled around was rather neat and felt rather community oriented. I wonder why more people don't try them out, i'm sure some of them would give some of the sub MMOs some decent competition if they were more well received.
An example of what i mean would be Aika. I've had fun with it so far (although at just level 13 out of 50, i've got a good while to go) and the end game seems (pvp-wise, need to look into pve-wise) to consist of organizing raids to steal relics (special items which provide a boost of some sort, from xp gain to cooldown reduction to skill damage to dealing damage to players of other countries) from other countries or just plain robbing from their treasuries of gold and items to make the relics better. The only things i can see holding it back from being popular is that it's F2P and that the classes are gender-locked (3 of 6 classes are male, and the other 3 (including both healer classes) are female.) but other than that from what i can tell the world pvp ideas look like they could give AoC or WAR pvp a run for their money.

We ran up, killed horde until our pally buffs went out, ran back to azshara, rebuffed, ran back killed more horde and repeated that for about 30 minutes.
