Is PvP gear good enough for heroics? {WoW}

Mar 5th 2012 4:05PM You know, amazingly, I think this DOES solve a lot of issues. Just zone in, be nice, hope for the best. It's gotten me quite far without a lot of the heartburn that others seem to have.

Are we killing stuff? Are we mostly not dying? Are people being nice - or at the very least - silent? If all that is YES, then I'm good. I rarely inspect people unless I'm either a) super impressed with their performance or b) their gear looks neat.

Is PvP gear good enough for heroics? {WoW}

Mar 5th 2012 3:19PM I think this gets into the heart of the problem. It's not that people (well, not all of them) are trying to scam the system. It's that when you have access to PvP gear, it does have higher stats that are attractive. So upgrading from a lower piece of PvE gear to PvP gear can boost all your stats, not just your resilience.

I understand when people get touchy about PuGs being made up of people in PvP gear, but if you're not a raider, or haven't been lucky with drops, sometimes that few pieces of PvP gear really ARE better than any PvE gear that someone has access to.

As for being full PvP and trying to see raids... I feel the pain now. I used to be solely PvE, but have recently ventured into PvP healing on my new shaman. I leveled her through PvE, but when I hit 85, I concentrated on PvPing with her. So now she's fully decked out in PvP gear, but hasn't seen any of the Cata raids. I'd love to take her in there, but I'm scared of the hate that will be thrown my way because I'm "scamming the system".

The Queue: Rule of Two {WoW}

Feb 20th 2012 11:04AM This may be a Q for the UI column, but here goes:

I frequently have an error message that pops up when I'm playing that says something like "the default UI has blocked that action. Would you like to disable the addon or ignore?"

How do I isolate which addon is causing the problem? It's usually in the midst of a frantic PvP battle that I see the error, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm trying to do that causes the issue. (ie: not sure how to recreate it)

Totem Talk: 5 ways to look like a bad restoration shaman {WoW}

Feb 14th 2012 1:09PM I agree with this. I typically like Joe's writing, but this article seems a bit too generic. Those 5 tips are 'How to not be bad at WoW'. A class specific column should be more, well... class specific. List things like Mowtems did above that really are things that new/bad resto shamans will forget or don't know.

I generally like a mix of new-to-the-class articles, along with more in-depth coverage, but this article seems too broad not very informative.

Totem Talk: 5 ways to look like a bad restoration shaman {WoW}

Feb 14th 2012 12:51PM I just don't see how it's different from all the Drama Mama columns that have complained "we went into a 5man, and someone rolled Need on something they couldn't use just to give it to a guildie" And those columns always said "It's unfair, everyone should have the same chance, etc".

Just because everyone's doing it, doesn't make it right.

Should WoW players be responsible for player accountability? {WoW}

Feb 8th 2012 4:32PM I've had a pretty amazing experience in WoW overall. Only occasionally have I gotten grouped with a random person that's been horrible. But I've never filed a report on them. It's never been an 'actionable' offense. Just that they were jerky or rude or pulled when they shouldn't have, etc.

Most of the people I've played with randomly have been the 'steady but silent' type. They're there to do their job and finish the run with a minimum of chatter. That goes against my basic personality type (I'm the one saying "Hi!" and "Wow that was a close one!" in chat), but they're not a +1 or -1 either way.

Breakfast Topic: Does being overgeared matter? {WoW}

Jan 30th 2012 10:32AM You didn't get kicked because you 'pulled too much DPS'. You got kicked because you pulled aggro. and apparently then decided to blame it on the DPS who were a bit slower than you liked.

Just because you suddenly pull aggro, you don't become some superhero off-tank. You're making it harder on everyone else.

If you can't DPS while controlling your threat, then you're doing it wrong.

Breakfast Topic: Does being overgeared matter? {WoW}

Jan 30th 2012 10:24AM As a DPSer, I don't particulary like overgeared toons coming in. I don't dislike it enough to make me rage or drop group, but it takes some of the fun out of the run for me. I want to feel like we all have to use CC, keep to the kill order, etc. It makes it seem like we're putting forth some effort.

If one or two players are majorly overgeared, then it seems like I'm just walking behind the parade picking up the candy. It's less fun for me. It's the same reason that I generally turn down offers to 'run me through an instance' while I'm leveling. If I want to just follow along and feel completely useless, why play the game?

Profanity filters, homophobic slurs, and Blizzard's shaky relationship with the LGBT community {WoW}

Jan 25th 2012 1:37PM So get involved with the LGBT community. You don't have to be gay to be involved and get that feeling of community. Heck, get involved with a local food bank, a homeless shelter, a foster-kids program, or a community outreach program. There are tons of things you can be involved with and find people that are warm, caring, close-knit and passionate about their lives and helping others.

Quit saying "oh I wish I was 'x', because then it'd be all roses and rainbows'. Seems like a wishy-washy troll-tastic post to me.
