Breakfast Topic: MMO = MatchMaking Online? {WoW}

Sep 18th 2007 1:49PM Anyone interested in this topic should explore Nick Yee's website, he's got a bunch of research on MMOs and dating. One thing i found to be interesting is that according to his research, at least half of female toons in WoW are played by men, whereas almost all male toons are played by men. Further, (again according to his work), 16% of subscribers are female.

site is here

How soon is now? {WoW}

Sep 14th 2007 7:22PM The blizzard downloader started downloading 2.2 onto my computer a few days ago. I'm not sure why. And it didn't install or anything. Figured it was some sort of bug. Anyone else experience this?

BigRedKitty: Gear Up for Karazhan {WoW}

Sep 12th 2007 7:37PM Thanks BRK for the crib sheet! On a related topic, what instances should we do in OL to get decent gear?

Breakfast Topic: Your least favorite instance {WoW}

Sep 11th 2007 12:07PM Lets see.

ST: extremely long, pretty boring.
Maru - very bland
SFK - blah, too tight for me (hunter)

Generally most of the instances are a pain, unless they're outdoors. ZF remains a favorite for this reason. I guess it depends on your class. I still like SM, it's pretty cool, but i found the trash loot to be very poor (few greens, few cloths).

Whoops, I'm level 20 {WoW}

Sep 10th 2007 8:31PM @4 ditto, in fact i leveled in AV. It was very sad. But i was the only 61 for a while. :) Now i don't dare touch BG, dunno if i'll ever get back to it on that char.

Insider Trader: Taking it in the chest {WoW}

Sep 9th 2007 4:04PM You forget to include the opportunity costs. To make the level 1 BP would cost 1000 gp in primals if you buy em off AH. Plus the leveling of BS required. Whereas the Raid stuff has the advantage of not requiring a huge amount of gold and BS leveling. But, the raid stuff is a low drop rate. However, you can assume that other tasty nuggets will also drop which you as a tank can use. I guess it depends on what you want to do, if you really intend to level as a armorsmith and get your nice armor, you can do that, but you really need to plan for it and postpone other things like flying mounts.

BigRedKitty: Identity Crisis {WoW}

Sep 5th 2007 4:20PM Yes, we (hunters) all (90% at least) need chain trap clinics. My guild did BF recently, 1 mage, 1 priest, 3 hunters. We got to..whatever that big ugly blobish floating blobs name is, that room. Anyway when you pull the lever, out mobs come, in grps of 4, 4 times. So you have a minute or so to deal with group, then onto next group. We wiped 5 times. 5 times. We had 3 hunters. We had a priest. We had a mage. We wiped 5 times. We'd trap decently the first time, but then all hell would break loss. Usually some of those first mobs would break due to something or another. And forget about chain traps. I'll admit, i got to 60 easily (really easily), not kiting, trapping decently. BM spec is the giant "I win" button. So, yeah, we huntards need more work. Here's the thing, nobody (or very few) knows how to play the class well. So learning is limited to columns like BRK and the official forums. Makes it hard. I'd be glad to teach ppl but I'm not all that good. And when 30-40% of your server population plays a class that they don't even know how to play properly, it makes it hard to get into grps to learn how to do group play properly (unless you have a great guild which always plays together).

Azeroth Interrupted: Reader Mail -- Is playing WoW on a school night ok? {WoW}

Sep 4th 2007 7:25PM @29, that makes lots of sense. I think almost all are in agreement that WoW is a huge time sink and you get absolutely nothing tangable from it. Further, i'll note that online gaming is itself a source of addiction. Not all WoW gamers are addicts, but many are. My definition; when it starts to interfere with job, relationships, etc, its taking over your life. But kids don't know that, they don't know what their boundaries are. So its up to the parents to watch over them. I'm totally for this sort of behavior. Now i just wish the entire WoW population would magically grow 10 years overnight so i wouldn't have to deal with immaturity. :)

Officers' Quarters: Please fill out in full {WoW}

Sep 4th 2007 5:22PM I'm somewhat amazed the guilds actually turn down lvl 70 toons, and they actually go through this process. My thoughts are, how many actually want to play the end-game raids, and for how long this will last until boredom sets in. Our guild is very low key, only half a dozen 60+ ppl. Obviously we need to work on recruitment, but i can't see having huge laborious apps helping. Either they fit in or they don't, you'll know right away. Guess you all are in a different league.

BigRedKitty: The Second Five Commandments of Hunterdom {WoW}

Aug 29th 2007 2:29PM #10 should be #1 I think. But there are instances where you have no choice. For example, as I was grinding to 60 i was stuck with a really nice 40 blue. I couldn't find anything better (look on your AH for 50s ranged weapons, they are few and far between). Finally i hit OL and got a bow my first quest. Thank god! Now i need a nice blue bow.
