Jul 24th 2010 10:39PM Is it just me, or is everyone else getting stuck at 29 points when building a pve spec? I tried all three trees, and at 29 points, I suddenly didn't have anything I wanted to spend on, and had to find the best of the other talents to get my final one. Anyone else have this problem?
Jul 20th 2010 5:07PM I don't RP because I don't have any friends who do. If I did, I would. All three of my level 80 characters have moderately developed backstory (in my head) which could easily be expanded if the opportunity presents itself.
I do play on an RP server, and I do respond in RP when someone RPs with me (like the guy at the tourney asking about my Crusader title: "Pray, how is a title such as yours obtained?").
Jun 27th 2010 2:50PM Two places off the top of my head where spellsteal is incredibly useful or even essential in a raid scenario.
1) Lord Jaraxxus' Nether Power. 5 stacks in 10, 10 in 25. Increases magic damage dealt by 20% PER STACK. Spam spellsteal till it's gone then go to town! This effect can also be removed by any dispelling class (like a priest's Dispel Magic) but it's so much better for everyone for mages to get it.
Pro tip though: he likes to cast this at the same time as he summons adds. If you get more than your fair share (4-5 stacks in 10, 7-8 stacks in 25), DON'T switch to the add till the buff goes down. At 8 stacks you'll peel a newly-spawned Mistress right off the OT.
2) Vampiric Might. This is a self-buff cast by Lady Deathwhisper's Fanatics. Increases damage dealt by 25% and target heals itself for 300% of the damage caused. Spellsteal this and not only will you save your tank a world of hurt, you'll become an unkillable death machine. Yes please!
Jun 27th 2010 2:40PM Maybe that's just it then--that for the most part I see the "it's a mage buff" argument from mages as the reason to cast it on each other. In a quick lower-content weekly or a VoA, sure, it saves discussion. But in the long run, I'm not interested in increasing specifically *mage* dps, but rather *raid* dps. The first is self-serving; the second accomplishes more. Now: if casting Focus on another mage *is* the best way to increase raid dps, excellent! All other things being equal, I'm happy to jump on the "mage buff is for mages" bandwagon. But I just don't see where that is the case. Perhaps it is *more* true with more mages going back to fire vs. arcane these days, but it may even be raid-comp dependent. In any case, I can't see the argument for casting Focus on an arcane mage over a spriest, lock, or boomkin. Arcmages don't need crit to work a spec mechanic.
Jun 27th 2010 9:38AM @ Rainbow: But that's exactly what I don't understand! Why is 6% for the mages better than 3% for a bunch of raid members? Most people are approaching the point where crit has diminishing returns these days--I have around 50% raid-buffed (without FM).
Jun 27th 2010 1:51AM @lirdan heh... locks as a class, they can get pyromelted. But the one particular demolock friend of mine, he can stay, as long as he's below me in dps anyway. I just can't say no to the spellpower buff... I'm such an addict.
Jun 26th 2010 6:48PM Focus magic! Let's have the focus magic conversation. Who to hit? Mages in my experience tend to like to share it in a circle... which is just silly. Taking as a given that any geared caster will give the casting mage 100% uptime, why not share that 3% around the raid? Spriests and affliction locks, it helps their dot crits. Demo locks it increases the time their pet's spellpower buff is up (yum). Arcmages, hit that fire mage even if they're still rockin' the frostfire: they're crit-reliant and you aren't. Boomkins and destrolocks don't have the dots of the first two classes I mentioned, but they have'em. Arcmages should be at the bottom of the pile of people to focus--except in a raid, I never focus healers except for Valithria.
Jun 23rd 2010 10:37AM This is exactly how I got Less-Rabi ages ago on my mage. 5 dps zerg go!
Jun 23rd 2010 10:36AM I'm a pally tank. I love army... certainly places.
Places I ask for it from my dks, even in pugs:
Tyrannus. Especially with a weak healer, but anyway, who doesn't love dpsing through Overlord's Brand?
Loken. Because he does the squishy bug dance and it's hilarious.
In addition to those two, if you're grouped with me and you follow the above rules, feel free! I'm not one of those tanks who gets her nose out of joint if she doesn't have threat. And, all I need to do is taunt every CD and when army goes down the boss is mine!
Since Army doesn't taunt raid bosses, it's generally fine in raids. However, please be aware of raid bosses with add management! Army DOES taunt the adds on Lady Deathwhisper, which is a huge pain in the ass for the tank that's trying to pile them up so they can be killed real quick. Not to mention the melee ones cleave.
Jun 22nd 2010 7:11PM Yeah. I mostly want the realms to come back up so that I can log my neglected male belf lock and find out exactly what happens.
I already know that if he dances on a mount his legs stay in place and his torso spins O.o
