Jan 7th 2012 12:32PM Trash serves a few purposes.
Partially, it's a pacing mechanic. Meant to control the tempo of raid groups, and how long a given instance takes to run. In the Good Old Days, it effectively limited the number of attempts a guild could get in on a night, since re-clearing the respawns frequently took the raid past bedtime.
Also, trash is easy. Especially after downing a heroic for the first time, it's nice to have that time to simply take it easy, not have to worry about maxing out my rotation. Part of the reason ToC was such a painful instance was, you never got the down time. It was 5 brutal, intense, performance-heavy fights in a row....and nothing else. Sure, you could get through it in an hour. But it felt like four.
Trash can also be educational. Mobs leading up to many bosses gives you a taste of what the abilities and mechanics are. The ooze trash in front of Yor'sahj, for instance, are toned-downed versions of what you'll encounter in the fight. My raid hasn't attempted it yet, but I know on heroic Zon'ozz, it's necessary to kill trash tentacles that spawn during the burn phases (which is now, I suppose, an add phase).
Finally, flavor. You're fighting the biggest, baddest bosses in the World (of Warcraft!). Bosses gotta have flunkies. C'mon! We're the heroes of action-movie legend. We've gotta slice and dice our way through waves of henchmen before the ultimate showdown!

Sep 11th 2011 12:17AM Given that nearly all of his credited kills are Wrath-era, I'm going to wager that, no, most of them weren't soloed.
He does have plenty of Vanilla/BC kills though, but.... 99 Kel'Thuzad, 72 Onyxia kills(the new one), 115 ToC clears (combined reg & heroic), around 100 kills each on most of ICC (again, combined) suggests to me that the majority were in fact completed in raid groups.
Clearly, he's got ALOT of time to devote to WoW.
Jul 30th 2011 9:31PM Yea, sadly, since nearly all of our abilities have cooldowns, haste just doesn't do it for us. Though I've found that, if you are on interrupt duty, if you wait until the cast is over halfway complete, they never cast two in a row. They'll always put in a brushfire.
Takes a little discipline, but let that cast bar fill up, and you'll be able to stop every one.

He had a ring of bodies around him and several somewhat sheepish people moving back and forth out of the AoE while a new wave of people would walk up and say "Oh hey! Geddon! Wow! This is a trip...."
And yes, I was one of those.
Jan 24th 2011 9:39AM I have 8 bank slots devoted to my quest-based Dungeon 2 set. Many many items and old, nostalgic items have been sold or destroyed, but for the life of me, I simply cannot bring myself to vendor good ol' Dungeon Set 2.
8 Bank slots......forever closed to me....
