Not So Massively: Diablo III's beta leaks and Rise of Immortals gets a release date {Massively}

Sep 6th 2011 12:45AM @TheClaw It's not a WoW subscription needed, you just need a new account. WoW and SC2 use the new system, Diablo/Diablo2/LOD do not. New one is a unified system, allows for cross-game communication and friends list. You should be able to sign up for one without activating a WoW key or SC2 key.

Officers' Quarters: Patch 4.0.1 -- An officer's perspective {WoW}

One potential avenue to a compromised account that I don't often see mentioned, yet I suspect is how many are taken over, is reused passwords on less secure sites. I suspect mine was compromised this way.

I too have always been very careful with my account details. I never fell for a phishing attempt, had 0 malware or spyware on my computer (per 10 different scans) and shared my details with no one, and yet my account was compromised. What I did have, however, was a bad habit of reusing passwords all over. When changes rolled out, my WoW account name, which had previously been unique, now matched my email, which is my username to dozens of forums and websites I signed up for over nearly a decade, its fair to say many of these I stupidly used the same password on. Breaking the low security on a password list for someones privately run gaming related forum (or even being done by an admin itself) and then trying those email and password combos against WoW and other popular games would be a no brainer.

The xkcd comic above from last week deals with this exact issue! I'm still not sure if this is how I lost my account, but I'm sure its how many have. To be safe after I got my account back I changed not only my WoW password, but stopped using the password that had failed to protect me there on all websites, systematically changing any account that shared this password.

The Daily Grind: What's the cruelest prank you've played on a new player? {Massively}

Aug 30th 2010 11:16AM Fun reading all these. I did a lot of teleporting annoying people to the middle of no where in EQ, or worse, to the Plane of Hate (expensive, but so worth it). And the -HP chest piece infinite death loop is the all time best.

Here's a good one that'll get even experienced players in WoW. After killing the Valks in Trial of Crusader raid, there's a cinematic and then the floor breaks away, dropping everyone very far into a pool of water. Classes with Water Walking can cast it on someone mid fall, causing them to take fall damage and die. Or for more fun, Death Knights can turn on their Path of Frost, killing everyone. (You can of course avoid death by looking straight down, which causes you to dive under regardless of water walking effects)

In Game fixes for January 4th, 2010 {WoW}

Jan 4th 2010 11:57PM Ah yes! I hated getting HHoR when I was gearing up my tank. One time I got dropped in there, apologized to the group and showed myself out, waited 15 minutes to requeue and got dropped in there again with a totally different group! 30 minutes wasted.
