Is comparing your game to World of Warcraft really such a good idea? {WoW}

Jan 13th 2011 7:48PM Well, regardless of how Rift is (having played on the beta, I'm pretty impressed), I think this ad worked in that now everyone and their dogs are talking about Rift.

The Lawbringer: WoW in China {WoW}

Sep 24th 2010 11:20AM Oops. Due to the 3 URL per post limit, I deleted the wrong description for that first page I linked.

That first URL is a zone guide/introduction for a Chinese MMO based on one of books by the most popular martial art novel franchise in China. Scroll down for some skeletal mobs goodness.

The Lawbringer: WoW in China {WoW}

Sep 24th 2010 11:08AM No bones my big fat hairy Chinese speaking Asian behind.

Promotional artwork for another Chinese MMO.

And yes, these are Mainland China's Chinese MMOs, note the simplified Chinese font.

The bone thing is most likely just a Chinese excuse. If I'm a betting man, I'd say the real reason is protectionism of the domestic MMO market, and that some Chinese Ministry of Culture officials overseeing this mess have a financial stake in blocking Blizzard.

Of course, I can't say for sure without looking up WOW's market share in China prior to this mess, and researching the link between Ministry of Culture officials and leading Chinese MMO developers.

Oh, and I'm rather miffed at Blizz right now for some of the OTHER compromises not being reported by western game press (or at least I haven't seen). Unlike Google, Blizz folded like a wet napkin on Chinese request to censor sensitive words in the game, like "freedom/liberty".
Source: Note: Not entirely safe for work, this legal, law abiding newspaper website have some rather racy news stories and pictures. (Hmm... "High temperature forces college girls to go topless while eating" Heck of a headline, got pic to boot too! )

Blizzard's Frank Pearce predicts renewed subscriber growth with Cataclysm, China {WoW}

May 25th 2010 11:05PM Dried up? Hardly. I'm pretty sure most other developers would give up an arm, leg, their own granny, and first-born to have even half of WoW's numbers for half as long.

It might have peaked for now, but you can't really call the giant hose of cash flowing into blizz dried up by any stretch of the imagination.

Officers' Quarters: A friendly loot system {WoW}

Apr 19th 2010 9:19AM No, the guy that lost the roll and /gquit was the dick. Loot drops, everyone that helped and could use it should have an equal chance to get it. Just because one person is more vocal about being a greedy loot whore does not give them more claim.

Apr 8th 2010 4:02AM Ghostcrawler's additional comments on the new talent Chakra should probably be included somewhere on this post.

The Lawbringer: Legal gold sales? Not a Blizzard's chance in Hell {WoW}

Mar 16th 2010 4:18PM Great article! As someone that's been casually researching gold
farming/selling, the information here (and that key logging site you linked) are definitely good reading materials.
