Debunking another hacked authenticator story {WoW}

Feb 9th 2010 1:55AM Robin, this is a great article but you'll never get anyone to email you to back up their claims. I have an ipod and the mobile authenticator. When the ipod went into recovery mode, I lost the serial number of the authenticator. I re-downloaded but it failed coz the serial didn't match. I had to call Blizzard and the only way they would remove the authenticator for me was if I could verify the serial key of my original vanilla WoW disc. I'm REALLY glad I'm a pack rat! I find it hard to believe that such a story as presented on the consumerist can possibly be real.

Two Bosses Enter: Ymiron moves on; Eregos and Loken rematch {WoW}

Jan 28th 2010 2:58AM Loken walks into the Thunderdome with a smirk on his face. Still bruising from their last encounter, Loken got sneaky and had every tile, every floor panel from his throne secretly moved into the Thunderdome in an effort to amplify his power. "Those little goblins did very well" He mused, "They hid it so well, even I can't tell it's there!"

The announcer begins, "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Thunderdome! I hope you placed your bets!" he pronounces as he holds his betting stub. "Loken comes in at 42 to 1 odds against Eregos's 5 to 1 odds considering their last match. This should be a good one!" The goblins, privy to Loken's plan, all placed bets on Loken winning. Now they wait in anticipation, counting the gold in their ugly green heads.

"The bell has rung and we're underway! Eregos has entered the ring and seems to be staring down at his prey but Loken doesn't take the bait. Loken opens up with his powerup, the always useful Pulsing Shockwave Aura. That should increase his DPS considerably. Eregos opens with an Arcane Barrage but Loken is wise to his abilities. He sidesteps it just in time and fires off a Pulsing Shockwave as he attempts to gain some distance. OOH! Eregos is stunned! Guess he wasn't expecting that! Uh oh, I guess he's mad now. He's barely into this fight and already the Planar Anomalies have entered the field. Loken seems to have stopped. He's staring right at Eregos. He better run or he'll be in for some pain! WOW, a Lightning Nova from out of nowhere! The anomolies have been incinerated instantly! Well folks, maybe Blizzard nerfed those guys a bit too much? By the way, our vendors now have astral burgers available for sale, freshly cooked." Loken laughs at Eregos and starts running.

"Such insolence, such arrogance must be punished!" screams Eregos but he soon realizes he made a mistake, as the announcer is quick to point out. "Ladies and gentlemen, that was quite an impressive opening play on Loken's part but Eregos isn't done yet. Eregos casts Planar Shift but That seems to have been a his worst idea yet. Loken has re-cast Pulsing Shockwave and seems to be using the 18 seconds of freedom to his advantage. The farther Loken goes, the more Eregos is hurting. Eregos is back and he isn't happy! He starts off with an Enraged Assault followed by Arcane Volley but Loken has cast another Arc Lightning. This looks like it could be it folks! Which one will hit first. Be ready fans! Eregos down! Eregos down! Oh My God! Ladies and gentlemen, the Fan Favorite, the top pick to win this tournament, the Mighty Eregos has fallen! Loken is your winner! That's all for this week folks. We'll see who Loken will challenge next week in the second semifinal of our Wrath Fantasy Death Matches! Enjoy your winnings!" The goblin signs off and scuttles away to collect on the biggest take of his career.

Curse Client for Mac v4 reviewed {WoW}

Jan 26th 2010 8:39AM @ Joshua
I wasn't implying that the curse client is solely responsible for the addons running smoother, just that with updates the client also helped lower the number of conflicts And errors I've received. In case you forgot, the client also installs a profiler that helps monitor the other addons.

Blood Pact: Mistakes other people make {WoW}

Jan 26th 2010 2:14AM I wish there was an edit button after comments posted.

If I'm healing, my priority list is Tank, Healer, DPS, pets. If your pet dies, sorry, he's the lowest on the list.

Blood Pact: Mistakes other people make {WoW}

Jan 26th 2010 2:10AM I've perused through some of the comments and I'm glad our readers have an understanding of the game. My pally is pulling out major dps but I'm dual-specced for holy and I'm tanking on my DK. Thanks to Whitcombe for all his great articles! I have learned from this site a few rules that help me in all groups and roles:

1. Tank's job is to hold aggro and he controls the pace of the run. If you don't like that, "You spank it, you tank it".
2. DPS needs to not only shoot his way up the damage meter, he also needs to keep an eye on his aggro so he'll stay alive.
3. Thanks to a commenter in a previous article for this, "the healer decides who lives or dies".
4. Shout out to Robin, "if the healer dies it's the tank's fault, if the tank dies it's the healer's fault, if the DPS dies, it's his own fault".

I usually enjoy class-specific articles because they teach us different ways to play our class, but this article wasn't one of them. It sounded more like healer bashing and I should have known from the title. Maybe you should read some of your colleagues' posts to find out what it is that you're missing (lacking). I'm not trolling and I hope that the warlock articles do get better. This, however, was NOT a good article.

Curse Client for Mac v4 reviewed {WoW}

Jan 25th 2010 11:05PM I use Curse v4 on my Windows PC and my Windows laptop and the functionality of this version far exceeds v3. The icon indicates when there's a new update, it's clear in it's descriptions of these addons, and I find the addons in-game run much smoother since updating to v4. I uninstalled wowmatrix a few hours after installing curse v4 and haven't looked back since.

Help! My account has been hacked! {WoW}

Jan 21st 2010 11:43PM @ Sparcrypt

You're an IT tech? I work in internet repair and you have no idea how many IT techs call in because they forgot to plug in their modem or restart their computer or something simple because they feel they're too smart for something that simple to happen. This is not meant to berate you or anyone else. I'm just saying that level of security and knowledge only work so well. I was never a fan of the authenticator but I got the mobile authenticator anyway. I discovered the true value of the authenticator when my Ipod needed to be reformatted. Since nobody had the authenticator, it was impossible to get into my account and I had to call Blizzard. I was grateful to discover the high level of security they used to verify my account. Now I'm happily levelling alts again and the authenticator is NEVER leaving my account or my side EVER again. Knowledge only goes so far. it isn't only "stupid people" that can get hacked. Sometimes those who's "knowledge of computer security is higher then the average reader" get hacked too.

Two Bosses Enter: Anub'Arak pounds Dred, Eregos faces Skadi {WoW}

Jan 9th 2010 11:28AM Everyone chooses Eregos because it's Oculus but that's not fair. Assuming all things are equal, Skadi's drake has abilities that might be able to fight Eregos but assuming game rules, when the adds drop Skadi's drake, both bosses will continue to fight on the ground. Skadi's adds can handle Eregos's adds to a point but he will eventually drop. If he doesn't, it's a tie but that won't happen. Skadi has a powerful whirlwind attack but it won't work when Eregos phases out. Eregos will win but we need a good reason why. Skadi's melee dps style is no match for Eregos's AoE and magical abilities. Case closed.
