Breakfast Topic: 'Every female WoW player has healed at least once' {WoW}

Mar 12th 2012 8:01PM I'm a moderately dedicated Holy priest (male), and one of my good friends is a dedicated Shaman and Paladin healer (female). Rather than being a gender thing, we believe that it's more a personality-type thing. We've both tried tanking, and we've found that we both really, really suck at it. So, rather than try to put a square peg in a round hole, we both just decided to stick with what we're good at.

I'll never give up my fire mage though.

The Queue: Digging for questions edition {WoW}

Mar 16th 2011 11:15AM That'd certainly explain why we can kill the same bosses week after week. They don't die, they just bugger off to the Pokemon Centre to get fixed up.

Breakfast Topic: Where do you play World of Warcraft? {WoW}

Mar 5th 2011 4:32PM On the train from Melbourne to Sydney using my Blackberry's tethering feature. The mobile phone coverage isn't great there though, so the ping was through the ceiling, but it was a great lark to be doing instances whilst on an IRL flight path. :D

I'd do the same on an aeroplane, but the nice people at Virgin Blue frown on such activities.

Reader UI of the Week: Crafting a UI for a disabled player {WoW}

Mar 1st 2011 5:50PM Yay, another deaf player! Whilst games like Assassin's Creed are virtually unplayable due to the lack of descriptive closed captioning, the fact that virtually everything's in written text is fantastic.

Another deaf player and I play 2v2, and each have a pile of stuff on our desks to throw at each other to get their attention to quickly sign something. Things didn't go so well when I accidentally threw my mouse at her, though.

Breakfast Topic: Do Cataclysm's explosive quests light your fire? {WoW}

Feb 28th 2011 3:45PM It probably says something that I put the Katamari Damacy theme on when I was rolling that thing around Uldum, and was laughing so much that my sister wandered in asking what I was laughing at. She failed to get the joke.

Seriously, one reason I'm levelling a fourth alt at the moment is to do that mission. I'd love for it to be a daily, it'd just never get old.

Drama Mamas: Letter-writers tell what happened next {WoW}

Jan 28th 2011 6:46PM As a deaf player, I've never had a good time in Vent etc, given that I can't hear anyone. Occasionally I've been in a good raid, where other healers have programmed macros telling me if they need a hand (I play a holy priest), but if the tanks do something unplanned that they only announce in Vent, it generally ends in a Falling Chandelier of Doom moment where the raid just explodes.

That said, though, I'm trialling a new guild at the moment, and I really hope that it turns out well.

Drama Mamas: Anyone can raid {WoW}

Aug 13th 2010 12:05PM Speaking as a deaf player, I can say with certainty that I know how Shy feels. "Dude, get on Vent." Sorry, won't help a shred. Et al.

As for Shy's situation, the great thing about WoW is that it's all about what you find fun. If you like farming for those rare non-combat pets, you can. If rep grinding is your cup of tea, you can do that too. If you're wanting to raid, you can. Don't let your disability hold you back, you can do anything you like. Read through raid descriptions on WoWWiki, watch Tankspot videos of fights, have someone explain it to you. Read through the raiding and class columns here on Wow.com, they're really helpful and worth your time. But really, do what's fun for you, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't.

Breakfast Topic: When your alt becomes your main {WoW}

Jun 19th 2010 10:17AM My main was a mage. As soon as I hit 55, I tried out Death Knights, just to see what the fuss was about. I liked it more than I thought I would, and soon enough, it was my main. I hit 80, and immediately hit a brick wall. This was before the dungeon finder was released, and nobody wanted to take me anywhere because of my lousy DPS, and the fact that I wasn't def-capped meant that nobody would let me tank. So I switched back to my mage, thinking I'd get out of the melee DPS glut by rolling with ranged DPS. By the time I hit 80 with my mage, there was a ranged DPS glut. So now I've switched over to my priest, and I'm loving healing. Hopefully when I get to 80, there's no heals glut.

10 ways to build a healing mentality {WoW}

Jun 6th 2010 7:50PM Although, I am personally of the opinion that any warlock who lifetaps until they're at 10% of health, in combat, and then whines about getting no heals, should really learn to play their class. Really, I've got my hands full healing the tank and can't spare a GCD for a Renew on said warlock or we'll wipe. Yes, it's happened before. Yes, it'll probably happen again.

Blizzard to break the AVR mod in Patch 3.3.5 {WoW}

May 20th 2010 8:57PM I think there should some element of skill to raiding, ie: knowing what to do when, rather than just having a mod tell you, "Stand here!"
