Aug 6th 2010 5:10PM While lots of lowbie alts (especially players who are tanking for the first time) don't seem to realise that you can't chain pull every vanilla dungeon, that's not always the problem.
On my baby druid, I've had a number of dps harass me to pull more, so they can AOE (and then complain at me for letting something hit them). At first, I was compelled to oblige them, because I knew my healer (who is always my IRL friend/leveling partner) could handle it. But it seems that dps who have never been anything but dps won't be placated until I'm pulling half the dungeon at a time. (To them I say, if you want a 5-minute vanilla dungeon, pay someone to run you through.)
New tanks, especially new players or new-to-the-server players, don't have the luxury of heirlooms to facilitate pulling more than 5 or 6 mobs at a time. People rolling their 3rd or 4th alt on their primary server tend to forget that not everyone has access to heirlooms and/or AH gear all the time.
That said, I've seen my fair share of mean players in general (not only tanks), thanks to the dungeon finder. Tank Entitlement, though totally not cool, isn't the biggest problem of the dungeon finder.
Jan 23rd 2010 9:04PM While I'm not defending my friend's neglect of his DK (we leveled our alts together, and hit 80 on the same day, yet I outgear him by quite a bit simply because I had been slowly amassing gold and epics for my alt since she hit 70), I tend to think that when the game allows you to start queuing for heroics--which it won't let you do in straight greens--you are capable of running them. If 1500 dps is the requirement for heroics, then my friend wasn't doing that terribly.
But I digress, douchey tanks will be douchey tanks, whether their group averages 10k dps or 1k dps.
Jan 23rd 2010 8:39PM This reminds me of a random I did the other day with my friend. We were on our alts. I was healing in my boe epics and free tier 9. He had just gotten his DK to 80 and had spent no time in regular dungeons upgrading his quest blues and greens.
It was H OK. Nobody died. The mobs went down smoothly. We came up 10 seconds short of the speed kill on the final boss. But never the less, at the end of the run, the tank decided to link the DPS meters. My DK friend pulled about 1.4k, half of the tank's DPS, and #4 on the meters. Not surprising, considering it was his first heroic on that toon, ever. The tank says, "Nice deeps, everyone... except the DK." The point of that was what, exactly? Aside from pointing out the fact that it is possible to do sufficient DPS in a heroic in quest greens?
I appreciate, at least, that the tank waited until the end of the instance to begin his douchebaggery, but that doesn't mean he was not awarded with a place on my /ignore list. I fail to understand the motive of people who post the meters just to put somebody down.
Jan 19th 2010 9:24PM Maybe a Meta lock to tank Keleseth? They have a handy taunt to pick up the Dark Nuclei. Plus, all the other fun pseudo-tank abilities.
