Apr 3rd 2012 4:59PM It continues because game companies cater to hormonal 14 year boys.
They need to stop in this regard as it props up some ultimately very dangerous stereotypes. Gender essentialism and patriarchal culture bias are not "just remarks" no matter the venue. They influence generations. For the worse. In this day and age there is no excuse for it ... other than to prop up the patriarchy.
Apr 3rd 2012 12:32PM I am of of the "loathe PvP and how it effects my PvE" camp. If it was a split product, fine ... more power to the folks who like it. Enjoy. But it's not, and the volume of changes made to my game play because of PvP "balance" has been very, very, frustrating.
My hunter's pets lost all unique abilities primarily because of PvP. My feral druid catbear is being scrapped because of PvP "balance" issues.
As for said "balance" ... it's a myth short of forcing folks into pre-made, pre-geared, toons. Folks who have more time to play, and therefore more access to game resources, will always be "out of balance" compared to more casual players, same as with raiding. Add to that all factors such as lag, computer quality, etc and there will never, ever be "balance" in the game. Period. PvP or PvE. So impacting my preference of play to minimize the inherent imbalance for folks who want to measure themselves against others in a video game just doesn't make me happy.
If I wanted to get into pissing contests with 12 year olds I'd seek that, and therapy, out directly.
Apr 2nd 2012 4:16PM I've reconciled myself to the existence of gougers and extortionists being allowed to play WoW. What still gets me is that said folks are propped up by Blizzard when they change game mechanics, again. And again.
For a period of time after each major mechanics shift, the kind that force a player to essentially redefine their toon, there should be a way, a temporary vendor, to simply change an old glyph/enchant/potion what have you into the new version if it exists, or the equivalent replacement, as determined by the changes to the game. There's no legitimate excuse for allowing a select profession to reap obscene profits because of the change.
It's really poor game design.
Mar 26th 2012 2:12PM Having seen them now on the test realms I can say they most certainly WILL be offensive as they play to the basest ""Evil of Fu-Manchu" style of characterization. They pander to a very western demographic. It has ZERO to do with the existence of space goats or moomen .. neither of those races are direct racial stereotypes. This is a quantifiable difference. I love the idea of a neutral race, Bliz just could have taken the higher ground and not made them a racial caricature. Also at issue is that they are also specifically targeted at younger audiences, you can't dismiss the "Kung-fu Panda" angle outright, who are not as able to recognize said stereotypes.
Just not a fan.
Mar 14th 2012 6:09PM As an engineer/enchater I'd love to see new blueprint for a "Process-o-matic". We could build a box that DE's/Mills/Prospects/ etc up to 12 items at a time (just picking the mailbox limit for grins sake). It would give engineering a useful item to sell, as well save a LOT of tedium.
Feb 15th 2012 6:01PM There is an old saying. "You can't legislate morality." It applies as much to our virtual worlds as it does our real one. Luckily enough the ramifications are virtual, too.
When our guild makes up a lions share of the run, which it frequently does (we've taken to trying to supply the tanks and at least 3 of the healers if at all possible) we tend to roll Need for everything we can and then sort it out at the end. This both covers more of the guild options as well as let's us hand out loot to the nice folks we meet.
Fair? No. Arbitrary? For sure.
LFR is a cesspool these days. Took some time. But there it is.
Jan 31st 2012 2:21PM This is why the AH as we know it needs to simply go away. It needs to stop involving gold. Make it a trade center, a barter center, anything but a gold center. Unlink it from the gold market ... problem solved, LOTS of problems, some very serious, solved.
Make all game items only purchasable from a vendor. Make WoW not an economy game.
Jan 11th 2012 12:30PM One thing everyone needs to remember is that sometimes people are expected to do things in guild runs and just naturally pick back up on it in a pug. Most pugs tend to have zero communication until they want to blame someone for something. A little communication goes a long way.
Jan 11th 2012 12:22PM Sadly, my bear still can't do it in the form I have to stay in. Nice for DK's and Locks they can rez anytime. Druids are now the rezzer of last resort given the volume of DK's out there. Now if only they'd actually do it. The last time I pug tanked, and I mean the LAST time, the DK actually said they wouldn't rez because they'd lose top meter spot.
