Dec 6th 2010 11:48AM Surely that's not true for guild leveling. How would you handle a guild where some members had Cataclysm and some did not?
I agree with the rest, though. You must buy Cataclysm to train Illustrious or Old World Flying.
Nov 9th 2010 10:46AM When Cataclysm launches, the regular Eternal Belt Buckle gains the text "Cannot be used on items level 300 or higher." http://cata.wowhead.com/item=41611

Deathwing did it.
Sep 23rd 2010 9:28AM Posted too fast - I thought of a third way. Blizzard could make the current StartAuction() function protected, but then add a new protected function to start a group of auctions. It would take a table as a parameter, listing the items and prices that I wanted to post. This would allow the addon to mass-post items like it can today, but you would have to click a button once per posting action. This would prevent posting from happening in the future, and eliminate the automatic under-bidding.
From what I gather though, Blizzard is not very dedicated to creating new API handlers for the modding community. Especially with Cataclysm coming out so soon, I can't see them dedicating development resources to something like that.
Sep 23rd 2010 9:17AM They'll have a minimum threshold built into their logic, and below that they won't post.
The way to beat them is to keep posting lower till you find that threshold, then buy all of their stock at that price, then relist it higher. Heck, maybe they forgot to set the minimum. 8)
But then you're still left buying at the price they want to sell at. Most likely when they come back they will just reload with more at that price. If their cost is lower than yours, you won't be able to win that battle long term - just get a few sales in between their checks.
Sep 23rd 2010 9:14AM As it happens, I was writing an auction addon for myself just this past weekend and was wondering about this. As I tried out the various events, I found I could scan for auctions at a future time; and I can post auctions at a future time. As long as I can do both, this type of automation is possible.
So how does Blizzard prevent it? Either prevent you from scanning auctions at a future time (which would hurt every player who uses an AH addon for buying things), or prevent you from posting auctions at a future time (which hurts anyone who mass-posts items).
As was mentioned already in these comments, they're going to choose option 2. By the time Cataclysm comes out you will need to press a button for each stack of items you want to auction.
This is actually good news for the gold sellers. If mass-posting becomes more labor-intensive, then the advantage goes to those with cheap labor costs. Also, there will be fewer sellers so prices will rise, which increases the demand for gold purchases.
It's still got to be done, though. Perhaps Blizzard will find a third way.
Feb 20th 2010 1:25PM I hope that you can still do them outside the dungeon finder. But I find this text worrying: "Players must use the Dungeon Finder to access these bosses.". That seems pretty specific.
