Jun 11th 2010 6:03PM I actually love the fact that there are so many "optional" talents. I think that's the point Blizzard is trying to make... They'd rather make it so that HOW you play your class is more important that the talents you choose. I've always hated that you only have 2-4 points to spend where you like at the end of the day to stay competitive.
I'm no ego dps by any means... most of the time I'd rather have the utility. It's for this reason that my arcane mage always takes Slow, even though many PvE raiding builds avoid it. 1 talent point for an additional bit of utility? VERY helpful!
I can't wait to see more of the trees and see if they've added more fun non-direct dps impact talents that will enhance my play style instead of my dps chart.
Jun 11th 2010 2:46PM Agreed. I'm VERY annoyed that they're making the Hard Mode some switch you flip, rather than some in-game reason for the content being harder.
Even Hodir's fragile stash or whatnot worked for me somewhat. I know it's easier for the designers to just have players hit a switch and boom, now that direct damage the boss does also adds a DoT. Boom: Hardmode. But I really enjoy the idea that Sartharion is WAY harder if you don't beat up his pesky minions first, and that mechanic continues to work great on Flame Leviathan when you don't blow up some defensive towers.
Jun 11th 2010 1:24PM @zdave Yes, but the feel was honestly way different. Because of the double targeting system of WAR you could do a channeled melee attack to do medium damage that would do heavy healing on your friendly target. WoW's Blood DK only heals themself. Also, the WAR Warrior Priest became the "melee healer" not only in terms of mechanics, but also in that one of their bread and butter heals was a melee attack which converted damage to healing, but only for those in melee range of the WP.
What it looks like WoW's going for with the new damage talents in the Disc and Holy trees is more for additional PvP capabilities as well as easier leveling while in Disc/Holy spec. You're only ever doing one or the other at a time. Saying you're doing both because of Atonement is like saying that Shadow spec is a half healer because of Vamp Embrace. Thought it helps, it's passive and minor compared to all out healing.
Jun 11th 2010 12:22PM I'd actually like to see the second point in Grace increase the total number of stacks allowed, rather than the 2%4% it gives now. This would give even more incentive to single target healing specs to focus on their target. The end result is still 12%, but it just takes 6 stacks to get there rather than 3 stacks.
Jun 11th 2010 12:14PM The purpose of the 1 second cooldown is to make it a GCD spell like it is now. The difference is that it's a 3 point talent now, not a 1 point talent.
When it was 1 point, you could simply remove the cooldown on PW:S by "lowering" the cooldown by the full 4 seconds. Boom... instant spell.
Lets assume they were to make this a 4 point talent. If what you were most after was getting PW:S to be spammed every GCD, you would only need 3 out of 4 points spent. That last point spent to bring the GCD down to 0 from 1 second is basically a waste because of GCD.
This was done specifically to void the "lol Blizz, why you put that there none ever take more than 3 points /fail" crap they'd get form forum trolls.
The math makes sense because it's now a multi-point talent.
Jun 4th 2010 11:19AM Please oh please... may I have funny magic mummy man now?
May 28th 2010 11:50AM To those bashing priest healers:
These are some of my favorites. As a tank I actually prefer a disc priest watching my back, and our holy priest usually performs any resto druid we have in the raid.
Check out my blog for an informed look at getting tank healed by each spec of healer:
May 25th 2010 3:28PM Excellent post! I just finished writing a blog for tanks to get to know their healers.
I'm leveling one of each tank, my main being a paladin, so this also helps me know what to look forward to.
