Jan 3rd 2012 4:39PM In LFR the ball will always eventually hit the boss to reset the stacks of rising anger so the tank doesn't get jibbed. You can completely ignore it and still complete the fight however the damage it does is pretty minimal and 1 person chasing it around will cause it to give stacks of the debuff to the boss that increases damage done so making the fight much shorter overall.
Jan 3rd 2012 4:36PM It doesn't splash and isn't suppose to so won't get hotfixed since it isn't broken. Just check the Dungeon journal and compare LFR to 10 or 25 man.
Jan 2nd 2012 11:54AM I'm surprised that the first thing recommended wasn't to clearly define what recruiting means. I'm sure that going out and shouting in trade chat and inviting anyone who is interested wouldn't fit the guild culture at all so getting a definition of what it means to recruit is going to be critical to getting people to buy into it.
I'd agree that kicking anyone who is inactive may be a bit extreme in a small social guild but what you can do is create a new lower rank that has no access to the guild bank, guild repairs etc and demote all the inactives to that rank. It still allows you to see how many active people you have and it's simple to up someones rank if they do start playing again but you don't have any major risk from the account being hacked.
Dec 31st 2011 8:16PM I understand what you are saying and have been feeling the same thing lately because I've had a lot more play time than usual. All 3 of my 85s have usually complete the LFR and capped valor by Thursday or Friday and I feel like I'm looking for things to do. I've polished off some achievements on my main but there are only so many you can work on that don't require huge amounts of effort or require other people. I've even running randoms on shaman healer or dk tank for the satchel hoping for that last drop or 2 I need from the new dungeons.
On the other hand I understand the purpose of the caps. Think back to ICC or ToC days. With no cap and up to 4 versions of ToC that you could run you spend a huge amount of time on stuff. The problem becomes that because it can be done people start feeling like it needs to be done in order to keep up with others and to get things as quickly as possible. With out caps, people will burn through the content much quicker than blizzard can create it and often times at an unhealthy pace.
I think I would like to see some slight adjustments on the VP rewards. Maybe 200 per LFR half and 100 for a RDF group. It's kinda sad that completing a 20-25 minute dungeon rewards more valor than killing a raid boss. That would also increase the number of runs needed slightly. LFR + 6 RDF groups instead of the current LFR + 3 RDF(4th to get the last 50).
Dec 21st 2011 1:25PM I agree with angus. If you are hitting the enrage you need to look at the dps. On a 10 man you might want to look at leaving 1 or 2 melee dps on the boss depending on how close you are on killing the oozes when they spawn. This should help out on your raid dps as less time lost to running around is more dps.
I'd also say that getting multiple yellow/red combos is going to be brutal for the healers until you pretty well out gear the place. Make sure your dps and tanks know and remember to use their CDs too, especially raid wide cooldowns. You should be able to pick up a second 378 ring by finishing the quests in the new dungeons but other than that you are looking at Valor or raid drops for upgrades. I assume you have been doing the LFR but just have been unlucky with drops. If not, make sure you are doing this as you can get 384/390 drops that will help out some.
I'd have to double check this but I believe that healing rain is correctly being affected by Unleash elements now for it's entire duration so remember to use UE every other HR for the boost.
Dec 20th 2011 3:49PM Yeah that is a big change when you are having to stack up and bounce the ball. Dispelling one at the wrong time or multiple too quickly will easily wipe the raid. At the same time they deal a fair bit of damage so you don't necessarily want to skip dispelling them. IMO this fight is the biggest step up from raid finder of the first three.
Yor'sahj does do a fair bit more damage especially when you get a combo that forces you to leave 2 ae dmg slimes up like green/red/yellow and the dps requirements to kill the slimes in time are tighter but the fight itself is essentially the same.
Dec 16th 2011 5:36PM The price on these seems to have dropped quickly on my server or maybe I just got lucky. I bought a pair of bracers for 5k from someone shouting in trade. There is definitely money to be made and you don't necessarily have to wait months for the price to drop but it can also bit you pretty quickly.
Dec 16th 2011 12:46AM 1) Blizzard has stated that this is because the current system still doesn't understand the concept of a spec and will probably have to be fixed with mists.
2) To me the best way to handle duplicate items is to have a single roll with the top 2 rollers winning. Outside of tier for hybrids, most people can't even use 2 of the same item but you also don't want to sit around and wait for the roll on the first to see if you win before needing the second.
3) Absolutely not. As frustrating as it is random is random. You can't start messing with that or it's going to have all sorts of problems. If you did go with your idea you'd just end up encouraging people to drop and get another raid later so that they don't have a decreased chance to win something on the later bosses.
4) It is still a raid even if it is significantly easier and less coordinated. Anything else is just going to lead to people feeling like they have to run it twice or try to game it to get the most benefit out of what ever system they come up with. Just look at how the vote kick system has gone. 1 loot per week is still the simplest and best option.
5) I agree here. There doesn't seem to be any penalty in the times I've dropped a raid. I've not been one to drop just because something goes wrong but I have had cases where the instance server is going to be reset or you end up in an in progress group that lost too many people and they just seem to be cycling dps through while never getting the tanks/healers needed to actually do anything. The problem as I see it is that even an hour deserters debuff isn't much when you have multiple 85's and can just queue up on someone else but I'm not sure how to work around that.
The one thing I would love to see in the Raid finder is some accountability/protection from people starting events when no one is ready. I'd say more raids than not we've ended up parachuting on the DW's back while people are still looking at the loot from the last boss, rezing and rebuffing and with no explanation of the fight even tho we had people who didn't know the previous fight. Luckily that doesn't necessarily mean a wipe on that boss but it is annoying.
I'd also say that while the parachuting on to DWs back is cool from a story and we are the heroes perspective it's horrible when it comes to actual practice. Peoples loading times vary and it varies even more depending on if you watch the cut scene or skip it. If they hadn't nurfed the hell out of this fight for raid finder this would be a nightmare and I'm not looking forward to doing it on normal because we've got 2 people with machines that zone pretty slowly that may well be a problem for us.
Dec 8th 2011 9:42PM Some more things to remember. The 359 boots and 378 bracers are still BoE and are both bought with justice points which a lot of people are going to have to burn while still doing randoms for VP. Boots should be under 1k and bracers are maybe 4k on the auction house while you can probably get them cheaper if you catch someone shouting in trade or offer in trade.
The 397 boots and bracers are also BoE but because this is first week that anyone could have the VP to buy them and sell them I expect them to be pretty pricy. Give it a few weeks and they will drop into the more sane 10kish range.
I'd also say don't forget the rep pieces. Your gonna gear past most of them pretty quickly but depending on your class/spec there may be one or two worth getting and if nothing else you need shoulder and helm enchants for your gear.
If you aren't yet 85 and you like it, level in battle grounds. When you get honor capped, convert the honor to JP until that is capped. If you've got both capped when you hit 85 you have 6750 JP to spend on 378 gear which will quickly help your iLevel up towards that 353 mark for the new heroics.
Dec 6th 2011 12:25PM I'm not sure what is going to happen with the LFR as time passes. I do agree with posters that there is definitely the potential for the quality of the average player to go down some as more people who haven't raided start using it and some of the more dedicated raiders end up not needing anything from it because they get geared out in stuff from the normal raids. On the other hand we might see more alts of more casual raiders getting raiding in LFR that didn't have the time to raid previously. Personally, I've taken both my alts through LFR this week and can see myself doing so in the future while I had raided with them probably half dozen times total previously since Cata came out. I just didn't have the time to find a regular raid group with them and didn't have much luck finding pugs. Most of the raids on my DK came when I had to step in and tank for our guild run because our regular tanks weren't available.
I don't see most players finishing their gear in the LFR any time soon. You just end up rolling against too many people (on tier pieces especially) and odds are there will be someone new rolling against you next time it drops, even if it is just the next boss in the raid. Tanks will probably have it best in that regard but it looks like we are a long ways from a tank shortage in LFR anyway.
I'm sure that the popularity will drop some but since it is pulling from such a large pool I don't think it will end up dying completely. Queue times might get a little longer and it will probably get harder to get a raid at odder hours but I think it will continue being a useful and successful tool.
I do agree that it would have been nice to have LFR available for Firelands too but I can understand that it might have been a bit too much work to try to go back and tune the fights to make them easier since they weren't designed with the idea in mind.
