Officers' Quarters: Trouble with a demoted raid leader {WoW}

Nov 21st 2011 2:05PM @ Lissanna - It's a rough thing to do but on the flip side you shouldn't see it as "heavy-handed muting." I'll show my age in WoW life here but back in the vanilla days 40 man raids were utter insanity, now factor that into the 40 people in a vent channel (plus or minus for lazy AFKers or curious listeners) with one or two people attempting to lead a raid.....you begin to see the value of an admin granted "Mute others while talking." What is happening, I gather from this letter without the benefit of being present, is the same type of thing that went on back in vanilla only on a smaller scale. The sub thing aside, its the same story: Someone who thinks they know better with no authority to say differently (unless allowed to) about strats, etc. is talking over the raid leader.

One can argue that letting the person talk over the raid leader (former position or not) does not merit being muted and that its not conducive or healthy to working out personal issues. The premise here is that the person who is causing the issues wants to even work the issues out. Its a safer bet that prohibiting that type of behavior in a raid, with 9 or 24 other people who are also investing their time, with a mute is healthier than letting the behavior be continuously heard and in effect causing a raid to come to a grinding halt.

Nov 9th 2011 1:19PM @ Ice - Maybe I can help you and by extension help you to STOP either knowingly or unknowingly spread for lack of a better term, complete bull@#!@. I have stock in ActivisionBlizzard so I am hyper sensitive to the earnings calls and I do listen to them, additionally ANYONE can listen to them by visiting http://investor.activision.com/. At NO time during that call did Morhaime even say anything REMOTELY similar to what you stated as a "RUMOR." You can see a transcript of the call as well by visiting http://seekingalpha.com/article/306409-activision-blizzard-s-ceo-discusses-q3-2011-results-earnings-call-transcript.

Instead of me bullet pointing how in fact this patch rumor you stated is patently false I will post Morhaime's relevant excerpt with regard to WoW during his portion of the call:

"Our revenues for the third quarter 2011 are down versus last year, which included the record-setting launch of StarCraft II. World of Warcraft finished the quarter with 10.3 million active subscribers worldwide, which is down from the previous quarter. While the majority of these declines are coming from the East, World of Warcraft continues to be one of the most popular online games in China and remains by far the most popular subscription-based MMO in the world.

That said, we know there are improvements that we can make in gaming content. The level-up content in Cataclysm is some of our best works. But it was consumed quickly compared to our past expansions set, Wrath of the Lich King. Once players reached max level, the end-game content in Cataclysm is more difficult. Balancing this content for our diverse player base can be very challenging.

Our development team is constantly analyzing the game, and we're continuing to explore ways that we can adjust the game to better satisfy both hard-core and casual players. To that end, our next free major content update for World of Warcraft is already in testing and will be available for players in the coming weeks.

This is our largest update since Cataclysm launch. It will include our biggest and best rated content ever, featuring the iconic dragon Deathwing, as well as a new raid finder feature. The raid finder will make it easier than ever for casual players to experience end-game content, and it will open up a big part of the World of Warcraft to more of our players.

Looking beyond our next content update, the development team is already hard at work on our next expansion set, Mists of Pandaria. We introduced the Pandarian race to the Warcraft universe with Warcraft III, and players have already been -- always been eager to see them introduced to World of Warcraft. We're finally making them a playable race in Mists of Pandaria."

Morhaime kept it vague as usual as well he should. An earnings call is not somewhere where you air out specifics so that the competitor's can adjust to it. Before you go around posting "rumors" that you may have "heard" was said, a little verification on your own part will help you in the future to avoid looking like someone who is just peddling hype.

Sep 21st 2011 3:52AM Heigan's dance (both vanilla and Wrath) will forever be one of the most fun and enjoyable parts of a boss encounter. I'm actually disappointed that SamLowry feels the way he does, but hey...such is life. The entirety of the boss fight actually provided for a brief moment of levity in a fairly punishing raid at the time. Maybe Sam, you'll see it for what it was or maybe not but as a wise novelist once said, "By dint of railing at idiots, one runs the risk of becoming an idiot oneself."
